Description
Bakura looked at the four children who were currently tearing apart a quick meal of take out. Yugi was still asleep in the box. Bakura had decided it was probably best not to wake him. Instead he had put a plate in the fridge for Yugi.Â
Bakura jumped as a small hand touched the back of his leg. He whirled around and saw Yugi standing there, half asleep. A blanket was clutched in his tiny fist; his other hand rubbed a sleepy, amethyst eye, fingers curled in.Â
Bakura sat there for a moment, wondering what to do. "Are you hungry?" he finally asked.Â
Yugi looked up at him with sleepy eyes. Bakura watched in horror as tears filled those amethyst eyes.Â
"What's wrong?" Bakura asked quickly, hoping to divert the danger.Â
"Y-Yama…." Yugi whimpered, trying to say Yami. A single tear slipped down his pale cheeks before he threw his head back, wailing. "Where's my Yama!!!!!!"Â
"Shhh," Bakura knelt before the sobbing boy. "Shhh, its okay, okay, Yami's coming back soon." he lied. Bakura bit his lip, knowing that he would have to call Yami later.Â
Ryou, hearing the noise, jumped off his seat and walked over to Yugi.Â
"What's wrong?" Ryou asked the crying boy. Even though Ryou was pretty tiny he was a giant compared to Yugi. He was at least a whole head taller. Yugi couldn't see past Ryou's shoulder.Â
"Yama's gone!" Yugi sniffled, distraught. Ryou smiled sweetly and hugged the other boy.Â
"He'll be back," Ryou assured him. Bakura watched in awe as Yugi stopped wailing and stared at Ryou, wide eyed.
"H-how do you know?" Yugi asked, tears still streaking down his face.
"'Cuz, you're swo cute!" Ryou giggled. "Yama isn't going to letz the meanie theify keep you all to himselfz!"Â
Yugi giggled as Ryou tickled him softly. "You right," Yugi agreed. He hugged Ryou tightly, burying his face in the taller boy’s chest. "Wank you!"
Bakura tried not to be jealous but failed. Even though they were both little kids he didn't like seeing Ryou being hugged by someone else. What was worse was that if Bakura tried anything on Ryou he would be arrested! He was already a dirty old man for thinking Ryou was so damn cute!!!
Grumbling under his breath, Bakura retreated to the living room and turned on a horror movie. He always liked laughing at the corny graphics. This one was called 'The Hills Have Eyes'.Â
Malik and Joey finished eating and came to watch the movie with Bakura. Bakura, of course, barely noticed them. Ryou took Yugi into the kitchen and got him dinner.Â
As a practically gory scene came on Joey started screaming. Malik curled up in a ball, crying. Bakura looked over and realized the two children were there. Crap….
Bakura snapped the movie off but the damage was done. The children were traumatized. Great, how was he going to explain this to Kabia!
"Shhh," Bakura hurried over to the two. "It's okay!" Joey kept screaming, terrified. Malik curled up into a smaller ball.Â
Ryou, hearing the screaming, ran into the living room. He saw Joey and Malik and turned on Bakura.Â
"Bad fluffy!" Ryou scolded, pouting. He ran over to Malik and Joey, pushing Bakura away. Bakura was so torn between how cute Ryou was and how relieved he was that Ryou was there that he let himself be herded to the side.Â
Ryou hugged Joey, quieting him down, then turned to Malik. Joey continued to cling to Ryou as he pulled Malik somewhat onto his lap, stroking his hair. Yugi, feeling left out, jumped onto the chair too and cuddled next to Ryou. Malik turned around and hugged Ryou tightly, still crying in fear.Â
Bakura watched in amazement. How was Ryou so much better at this then him? Ryou was only… okay he didn't know how old Ryou was, but he was a 500 year old Egyptian spirit! For Ra's sake, he should be able to take care of some little brat… kids…
Bakura sighed and looked at the clock, nine. Time for bed, thank Ra!
"Bed time," Bakura said. The four kids looked up at him with wide eyes, Malik's still filled with tears, Joey's still filled with fear.Â
"Okay!" Ryou smiled at Bakura before turning to the other. "Let's go."
Malik grabbed Ryou's hand while Joey grabbed the other. Yugi trailed behind, clutching Ryou's shirt.Â
Bakura watched the little train of children until they disappeared into their room. He then turned and headed to the kitchen. He had some calls to make.Â
"Here you goz," Ryou said, handing Yugi his nightshirt. Malik and Joey were already dressed and in bed. Bakura had placed several air mattresses on the floor, but they weren't going to be used. Malik and Joey were too scared to sleep without Ryou and Yugi had become Ryou's shadow.Â
"Fank you!" Yugi chirped as Ryou helped pull the sleeping shirt over his head.
"You’re welcome," Ryou smiled. He grabbed Yugi's hand and helped him into the bed then went and turned off the light.Â
As the room was enveloped in darkness fear spiked Ryou. He couldn't move. How many times had he been left alone in the dark? How many endless night had he had to endure? The monsters… the monsters… they were going to get him! The monsters were going to get him! Help!!!
Though inside he was screaming only a whimper escaped his lips. Yugi slid from the bed and stumbled in the dark until he found Ryou's hand.Â
"Come on," Yugi said sweetly.Â
Ryou allowed Yugi to lead him back to the bed. Then he curled up closely to the star haired boy. Malik wrapped his arms tightly around Ryou, fearful. Joey hugged Malik tightly in return. Ryou yawned sleepily.Â
"Good nightz," Ryou murmured softly, his breath tickling Yugi.Â
"Don't let the bed bugs bite!" Joey yelled in one final burst of energy before slipping off into sleep.Â
Bakura, hearing the yell, decided to go check on the boys. He opened the door to their room and saw them all curled up together, like kittens. He smiled and leaned against the doorframe. When he was younger him and his brother would always sleep together. His mother would think it was the cutest thing. Even after he had gotten his own bed he would always sneak into his brothers whenever he had a nightmare.Â
Smiling to himself he headed towards his room.Â
"Yugi's alright?" a voice on the other end of the line asked.Â
"Yes, I left him with the thief," Yami said. "I'm going to check on him tomorrow."Â
"Good, after that come meet me." the dark voice said again.Â
Yami nodded. "Of course,"Â
"And don't forget to bring the puzzle…."Â
