Daylight was fading quickly. Ryou was fearfully waiting the arrival of his yami, Bakura. He had Bakura's dinner already on the table so maybe he'll be easy on Ryou, but Ryou didn't get his hopes up too much. Bakura found glee in torturing him and some dinner was only going to distract him for a little bit.
A key slid into the front doors lock. Ryou scurried to his room and silently shut the door. He heard the door slam open as Bakura entered. A chair scrapped across the ground and the sounds of Bakura eating drifted to Ryou.
Ryou sighed if relief and sat down on his bed. Bakura wasn't mad today; maybe he could get away with no beatings tonight. With cheerful thought in mind he grabbed a book and started to read.
Where was that stupid hikari, Bakura wondered as he finished off the meal that had been prepared for him. Bakura sighed and got up from the table. He was going to go find his little hikari and show him not to run from him.
Bakura went to Ryou's room first because that's were he mostly hid. Ryou heard Bakura's footsteps and silently slipped under the bed, taking his book to hide all evidence he had been in the room.
"Where are you hikari? Bakura asked as he opened the door. Ryou held his breath as Bakura entered the room.
Fear bloomed in Ryou's heart as the yami walked around the room. Ryou's natural instinct was to run but he knew that running would allow Bakura to find him even easier.
"Ryou, I know you're in here." Bakura purred. Ryou started shaking with fear as Bakura's feet paused by the bed. A hand shot out and grabbed Ryou by the collar of his shirt and dragged him from his hiding place.
"Did you really think you could hide from me?" Bakura asked the shaking boy with a smirk. Ryou whimpered and stayed silent.
"Hikari, I asked you a question." Bakura said his smirk growing more dangerous, his cold eyes regarding him like a predator watches its prey. Bakura drew a knife and held it menacingly at his side. Ryou's pupils dilated as the knife slowly rose.
"I-i-" Ryou started. The knife came down on Ryou's arm, drawing blood. Ryou stared at the blood in horror as Bakura's smile grew even wider, if possible.
Bakura licked the blood from Ryou's wound, enjoying the taste of copper in his mouth. Ryou whimpered again and Bakura lifted his head to smile at his little hikari.
"Are you afraid of me?" Bakura asked Ryou. Ryou stayed silent. Bakura laughed cruelly and threw Ryou against the wall.
All the air was forced from Ryou's lungs as he slid to the floor. Blood seeped through a small wound in Ryou's head, staining his white halo of hair. Ryou stared at Bakura as he came at him with a knife.
Ryou screwed his eyes closed and waited for Bakura's next attack, but non came. He dared opened his eyes a crack and saw Bakura glaring at him. He squeezed his eyes tight again and tensed up.
"Open your eyes." Bakura said. Ryou just squeezed his eyes closed even tighter, ignoring Bakura's wishes.
"I told you to open them!" Bakura growled. He grabbed Ryou by the front of the shirt and lifted him up. Ryou gasped but kept his eyes shut.
"Open them before I open them for you!" Bakura threatened as he ran the blade of the knife across Ryou's cheek, leaving a think line of blood. Ryou opened his eyes a fraction.
"Very good." Bakura purred as he lightly dragged the blade across Ryou's throat. Ryou opened his eyes all the way and stared at Bakura in wide eyed fright. Bakura chuckled darkly and gave Ryou a matching cut on his other cheek.
"I think that's enough for today." Bakura whispered into his hikari's ear before throwing him into the wall again.
Tears streamed down the young boys face as Bakura slammed the door shut. Bakura was the only person Ryou had left yet he was the person that hurt Ryou the most. Everyday Ryou had to go through at least some form of torture. Most of the time it was actual beatings but sometimes it was verbal. The verbal beatings hurt the most. No matter how many times Bakura hit him or wounded him Ryou always healed. The words that Bakura threw at him couldn't heal; they stayed on Ryou's heart like a tattoo, slowly eating him away. Nothing could stop the pain that came with Bakura's words. Nothing could hurt him more. Nothing could take his dreams away just like that. But even through all the pain that Bakura inflicted upon him Ryou still loved him…because he was the only person Ryou had left.
