Since a number of my readers have commented on the way Erik blushes so frequently in OLAM I decided to start working on a "Blushing Meme" consisting entirely of Erik blushing in random ways. This is a preview.
And yay for more Photoshop practice!

Of course one might ask... how is he able to blush through the mask? It's more conceptual than literal. I suppose that's one thing that I have always appreciated about anime and manga -there's so much about the style(s) that is figurative rather than literal. Just like in American cinema color, music, and text are often used in anime/manga to elicit an emotional response or convey a deeper meaning. It's just a little more blatant in anime and manga. Take for example a common design feature for anime characters: pink hair. At first it seems a little strange because, of course, it's not a natural hair color. However it's less important that the character's hair is pink, in and of its self, and more important that it suggests something about the character's personality traits. Pink hair is often, but not always, used on characters that are "cute," "bouncy," "innocent," or " magical."
*Shrugs* A lot of artists criticize the Japanese animation style, and even harsher towards Westerners who try to emulate it, but I've always thought it was fun.
