... I need better titling skills.So, practicing some backgrounds here. Suggested by =melody-musique to make a night ocean background.
It didn't turned out bootiful, but it turned out okay... for someone with my skills.
I didn't try on Miharu much since I wasn't focusing on her... HEY, DID YOU NOTICED, IT'S MIHARU!! Haven't drawn her in mermaid in AGES.
I think the water got me. I don't know how to paint water. The bg was just, bleh, random putting this here & there.

This is prettyyyy. I think I must have a soft spot for ocean paintings (want back to Cali plz not Michigan), because I absolutely rahv this. I know you said not to critique on Miharu, so I won't--but I will tell you that the anatomy on that gorgeous piece of ladyfish is spectacular.
Okay for some reason, I felt the need to redline this; probably because it's hard to critique perspective without giving any visual. The only real thing that bothers me about this painting is that the horizon line is too low; the ocean seems to stop abruptly instead of going on forever, only stopped by the vanishing point.
Now, I'm gonna get ALL TECHNICAL ON YO FACE. [link] There's the redlined version. Really, all I did was take the perspective from the figure and mapped it to the background (using her body and the way she was facing). Surprisingly difficult. I don't even know if I did it right. 8(
That horizontal line is, you guessed it, where your horizon line should probably be. The point where all those lines meet is the vanishing point, which is self-explanatory. That's where everything vanishes into thin air, because it's too far away to see (BUT YOU TOTALLY KNEW THAT ALREADY).
[link] There's my really half-faced version of it. See how, now, the ocean seems to go on forever (...at least almost)? Infinite things create a much more dramatic image.
The only other beef I have is with the pixel size you used to paint the water. Remember, water is gooshy and wavy and whatnot 8) You probably want to use a larger brush size--but the technique you used it perfect! The moonlight reflections are gorgeous.

I need to learn how to paint waves, LOL. It was big brushes, but than got smaller & so.

If it were me I'd paint the water randomly 8D oso ref doesn't hurt.
I kinda think you should reconsider your soft painting style, atleast on somethings, because it looks chalky rather soft.
Erm I think I know a technique for water...haven't tried.
Making a duplicate layer of water, keeping some parts transparent, like around the rock and the ripples, and you could then decide to add more detail etc.
When you paint water you need to make it look silky/smooth, that's another reason soft cging fails it needs to look clean unless it's hot water o.e and steaming for some reason and there's fog or something.

My only critique would be edge definition.
Back when I critiqued your "still doll" piece, and said that there was no real definition between the wall and the floor and that it looked to 1 plane.

The water and the sky look like they are literally touching.

nice moon nice sky nice shine on the water...
the ocean texture is weird o.o esp the part around the rock. looks like strands of blue hair or smth o.0
and the shiny parts of the rock look a bit wrong :S like some parts that are shiny ought not to shine kinda thing
