Description For a very long time now, I've noticed these "magical tranformation"/"magical enchantment" scenes in film AND literature and wondered to myself, how does this work? You generally see the subject being modified lifted up into the air (via magic) in some sort of warm glow and proceedingly twirled around during the process (via magic), showing the transformee in an acceptant, if not happy, emotional state as if nothing intense were REALLY happening. They then tend to come back down to earth in their new state and have very little qualms about the process that they just went through.

This irks me TO NO END.

You see.... magic doesn't work that way. Unless you're a magical being of some sort or fashion, you're gonna be hurting.
When some non-magical creature (like humans) have something UNNATURAL (like magic) thrusted into them and swirled around, transforming their very being at a core level to warp into reality new features, every CELL in their body will be writhing in pain.

For short, Magic + Non-Magic DOES NOT mix very well. It is a very painful process, turning something from one nature to another.

And thus I decided to draw this to demonstrate the magical-air-lift transformation so commonly seen nowadays, as it SHOULD be.... Cringing in a fetal ball trying to ride out the experience, not sprawled out in a relaxing warm embrace.

Oh, here's a video of a more realistic transformation:
