Hi there!

I will start with the vision. First thing what captures my eyes in the umbrella she is holding. The color stands out so good and it fits so perfectly with the blue / dark blue backgroun. Her pose is also very dymanic. I really love the details on her coat, love it.

Also what you did very well, is putting some pink on her face, so it looks like the umbrella is shining onto her skin, and that makes is very realistic.

The technique, well it is just your own, and I think you did it very nice. You really know how to play with the colors and the light on her face and making things having textures.

It is amazing, just love the color pallet you have chosen. It is really nice and makes t his a nice drawing, great job!

I really hope you will make more unique pieces in the future!

I had a big crush on this work !
I will try to explain why whith a logic order aha~

First when i saw it, the color, the contrast attract my eyes, this is well done !
Then what he makes me feels like "wow" first is the background and effet around the umbrella. Looks like rain but also smoke not a gradient not too static, this effect is perfect !

And then the most wonderful one, the character, she is so expressive, there is so much details/shading on her, but only with few colors (that's how it looks).
Looks like with minimalist things, you can do wonderful things !

Is she smoking (reminds background) ? Is she kissing ?
It's really original and really beautiful ! Great work !

The, blue hues in this painting are wonderful, and how you blended in the read is splendid, I really like how you did this, except the hair could you some detail. I love the whole aspect of the paint, the pose could be altered, a teeny but its fine. The vision in this painting is splendid. I think that the background could be blended some more, but not to work. Her clothing, could use some more folds, I think. And also that you did a great job on her skin tones, you blended each object into the backgorund in it's own way.

Ah where to start with this awesome piece!? I think i'll start with what struck me first, her expression.

She had this look about her that would make any man melt, (or in my case, woman). And the amount of detail you put into it is amazing! I love her lips, and the way her eyes are, and even her cheek bones!

And her pose is just fabulous, it really makes the piece.

But other than her face, i think my favorite part about this painting is how you made the umbrella and the background. They seem to flow together giving this an almost surreal feeling.

one word. WOW. this is beautiful, just a quick intro before I start:

wow. colours and technique are amazing!

-pros-
* the face is beautifully done, it looks so real!
*I love how the umbrella is the pop of colour against all the hues and shades of blue
*I love the background

-cons-
*I am confused, must it be raining? if so, the background doesn't show it.
*the random strokes of yellow on the umbrella are a bit weird for me, but they are still beautiful

its a beautiful piece, its definitely got its place in my favorites!!

it was an honour critiquing this

As I can see in this work, you managed to pull off a somewhat traditional-looking painting style in your digital art.
First off I'd like to say that the main image captured in this picture really pulls of that rain-downed look, all while keeping the bright colors and highlights! However, some of the bright colors of the umbrella and the yellowish-orange highlights take away from the main subject and leaves less emphasis on the main figure.
The main concept expressed in this painting really gives an old-fashioned vibe, along with a charming pose. The modern style you used in this painting really shows what you were trying to convey, with a very unique time period to follow along !
The vertical strokes used in this painting are simply brilliant, since they give off a feeling of movement and being in the rain in general. Bordering the background with contrasting blue strokes also added atmosphere to the work.

Overall, I'd like to say this is a very skilled piece of work that seemed to have a lot of time put into it to re create the reference in a way where it adds a whole different type of feeling to the picture !

Another great deviation. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/> Well done!
Now, there are so many great things about this piece.

Vision: The overall look of this piece is fantastic. The warm colors of her umbrella provide an excellent contrast to the cool colors on the rest of this work. My only complaint is the anatomy of the woman. Her hands seem a little small. Other than that, fantastic work.

Originality: The pose is great, the scenery is great, the overall feel of it is great and original. I've never seen anything quite like this.

Technique: I think we all know why I chose 5 stars. The strokes you used look amazing.

Impact: Again, this is really well done. Of course this gets a 5 star rating.

First let me say that this picture looks like the character is standing in what looks like to me a rainy night under an umbrella. I like the fact you put a picture reference to this picture. *coughs* Ahem.Let's get real serious this time.
This is just...SUPERB,I mean wow.
Every single detail is really perfect. You used a lot of colors, which makes it really colorful~ I love how you drew her hair, dress, umbrella, everything.
Her outfit's very well drawn,gosh.

The background looks wonderful,it fits perfectly .♥
Speaking of which, the background kinda reminds me of Haychel's works, they look quite identical!

You used just the right amount of shading and contrasting,very well done! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

I love this e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/> It is so bright and colourful. There are so many different textures to the piece. The detail is incredible. The coat has had so much work in it, right down to the shine and hems. The colour of the umbrella is so striking against the blue shaded background, it really draws your eyes in. The background is so complex and so detailed, but not so much as to be distracting from the main focus which is the girl. You have done an incredible job with this piece, it shows great technique and talent and a lot of originality.

This piece reminds me of an "urban" ambient.
The girl has an "pin up"-like expression and I love it e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/> Reminds me of a police girl, but not the serious type, more like a free and not afraid to show her "girly" side
The umbrella seems to shine of its own light and gives to the pic a warm feeling against the cold colors and the rain texture.
The outfit is very well drawn with her shadows and gives the sensation of a plastic fabric, like the ones you wear when it's raining (Lol, English is not my first language, sorry if I can't explain well) and it fixes perfectly with the other things.

Anyway, good job! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

First of all, nice piece and interesting blending and shading style. I really love the color scheme with the reds against the blues and it makes certain things really stand out. One thing that I would like to mention would be to blend the colors together or blur the backgrounds a bit more. Usually when I look at a piece, the more detailed part (the person in this case) would be the most detailed part of the piece to stand out against the background since it would be the focal-point. The shading and shadows and lines are also really nice as they used the red and blue hues as opposed to having plain black lines like some pieces I would see. Nice concept, nice colors! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

Cheers for the comments!

I would have to disagree with you on some of it though.

The subject should be more detailed than the background - not necessarily! lack of details is just one of the techniques used to impart a depth of field. I would argue that by using broader strokes on the background and finer workings on the subject, there is enough of a distinction.

Same with the blurring idea. I have used that extensively in my previous paintings, this is just a departure into somewhat more post-impressionism (albeit a rather half-hearted attempt, I agree. Look out for my next piece!)

The idea I wanted to play with in this piece was mainly the play of colours. Its a study in working with colour theories and playing with different hues to create focus.

Alright, i'm nervous about writing a critique on such a perfect piece of work, but lets begin.
First of all, i:d like to inform you that my phone is being used to type this and so if ant larger or small mistakes are notiable in my grammar, I apologize. My phone glitches out a lot. XD
I absolutely love the blending style here, and the way you add lighter and or darker colors into the picture gives it an almost Purplekecleon look to it. It reminds me of her coloring style, in a good way.
I love the detail, but the umbrella really catched my eye. Almost making it the complete enter of attention, probably due to the darker colors surrounding it. I don't know if this really was your intention.
Maybe some darker colors near the middle of the umbrella or even a darker shaade of red tto suit the dark color scheme would work better.
I hope you find my critique fair and helpful, and sorry that i can' go back to fix typos because my phone is being awful. The "catched" I wrote up there really bothers m,e, it was suppsed to be catches.

It was indeed my intention to make the umbrella the focal point of the piece.

I've found it rather interesting how people simply assume vertical lines equate to rain once there is an umbrella in the picture. the human mind draws amazing conclusions [/random]

first of all, excellent excellent excellent color scheme <3 <3 i'm in love! that blue background is so calming, and then suddenly there's this bright pop of red. i absolutely love the contrast, it makes the entire picture have a bold feeling to it :3

that face. that expression. xD beautifulll, i really love it e.deviantart.net/emoticons/e/e… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="377" title=" (Eek)"/> you captured the feeling perfectly! i love your detail on the lips, and how you added a reflective light on her skin from the red e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

i'm in love with how you managed to make it look somewhat like it was raining, even though you didn't add a lot of detail to the rain at all. some people may not like your somewhat messy style, but i really love it alot :3 (sorry, contrasting the other person's critique xD)

the one thing i'm not a huge fan of is the bottom background, i dont really like how stark the transition is between the brighter blue and the darker blue?
also, you have hexagon shapes on the middle and bottom of the iamge, but none as the brighter blue transitions into the darker blue on the top of the picture, do you know what i mean? xD

overall, absolutely gorgeous piece leaving me thinking 'wow'. again, i love the contrast between the red and the blue, your style, and basically everything! keep up the amazing work!

A wonderful picture of rain and a woman. The best part is the main door palette against contrasted against the bright red hue of the umbrella. The shine on h clothes is done well, and the anatomy is breathtaking gorgeous. However, my biggest problem is the piece of clothing that's behind her back and visible. (It's hanging off of her shoulders) it's very distracting, and seems unnecessary compared to the detail of her coat and everything else. It just looks odd, and doesn't fit in well at all. Make sure you don't add unnecessarily detailed clothing or other stuff into your pictures, and then it will be a lot better.

Wow, this is amazing! I really really love it! Everything is so beautiful about it! The girl is beautifully proportioned and shaded. Her facial and body expressions are perfect! But since this is a critique...
I think the umbrella sort of look s inside out, as in away from the lady. If you put in some more shadow, I think that would fix that. I also see in the background it is supposed to be raining. I really like the texture and how it was done, but in some places it looks like smeared ink instead of rain. Try making it a little more defined.
Overall, this is GORGEOUS and I love it! Hope I wasn't too harsh. Keep up the good work!

I love how you did the umbrella, asking the inside lighter so the picture focus was around the lady's face. You did a good job with her hands and face! I absolutely adore this work of art.

The detailed shading of the dress makes it more realistic! It also makes it look like a shiny material, therefore giving the outfit more meaning and detail. The umbrella stands out because of it's bright look, and almost looks as if it's producing a light source. The way you added a slight tiny of pink to the characters face shows the shine of the umbrella also. The way you added multiple shades of blue in the background makes it look more unique, rather than a plain blue setting. It also makes the character herself stand out, therefore making her and the umbrella the "center of attention."

This definitely is one of my favorite pieces of artwork! Wonderful job~!

I really like how this piece as a somewhat throwback 1950s look to it. Not only that but the paint rain is nicely done as well, what with its attraction to the umbrella. I also find it neat that you made this slightly more unique. Most artists would probably put the umbrella directly above the woman's head, perfectly straight, but you took a funner approach and let her get wet, which you made fairly easy to tell, considering her clothes look wet. You really made the colors pop, proportions, detail, shading, and her facial expression are beautifully done! Very lovely piece. In definitely needs more attention than its getting.
