Description I haven't painted with oils since the semester before last, so I thought I'd play around with my remaining paints and see if I could do a quick traditional speedpaint.

I like the vivid colors and the contrast between the colors of the sky and valley. The foreground seems a little off. The second hill to the front wouldn't be so light because it is in the front, and in both of the forefront hills you would be able to see a lot more details, especially on the darker of the two. Down below, the trees would be smaller considering you're on a hill. Also, it's interesting if some trees are defined and the rest is just texture, but I would define a few more rather than two or three before putting in the textures. Oh, and be careful of the sky bleeding onto the hill in the back there. Overall, this is pretty and interesting for a speedpaint (especially consider with what I've heard about oils, paintings take ages to really complete because of the trying time). Nice work

The textures turned out really well, I especially the contrast between the smoothness of the clouds and the roughness of the vegetation. The colours are a bit too bright for my taste, namely the reds in the sky, but to each their own

Thanks for the critiques! I agree about the brightness; I probably should have stuck with a pinkish instead of red for the lighting.

Woah so many textures and those clouds are fantastic! I've never worked with oil paints, but I don't think it's for me cause they take so long to dry up --> and I'd accidently would bump into it all the time or stuff x)
Great coloring <3

Most of my oil stuff got to dry at college, so it was safe from me bumping into it. But if it was home I'd probably smudge it accidentally...

No problem! I was never in to painting myself, but I like seeing other people do it, especially watercolor.

A little rough; but the emotion is definitely there I LOVE the red sky and the detail you've put into the trees!

Definitely; I love it when anyone takes the time to comment. Hypocritical of me perhaps, as I'm more of a fave-and-run person...

Professor-R In reply to Ascotia-Bluefleck [2014-01-28 18:13:15 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

I'm opposite---acrylics are hard because their opacity, and watercolor dries too quickly for me. I guess I'm too used to oil, because it's easier to make corrections.
