TEE HEE.If you've played the Paper Mario games you'll be familiar with their habit to name mushroomers **** T. to make a pun: Tayce T., Miss T., Heff T. and so when I thought of the name Emp T. I, for some reason, immediately associated it with emptiness in the field of feeling and soul and all that blather.
Then I made a character with it.

"Emp" on it's own seems to suggest "Empathy." If that somehow has some deep meaning.

Hey, now that you mention, they DO name a lot of characters with T.! I hadn't paid attention to that before!

I was extremely tempted to do something involving swoopers; bats being the goths closest familiar, but then I remembered how awesome chomps were.

I suppose what makes it even more unique is that it's unlikely that nintendo will darken mario's world enough for them to use such a character, but stranger things have happened.
