My last picture of Toon Link: professorfandango.deviantart.c… was a bit of a scrappy quickie but I think that style in general is a bit of a challenge to get right so I'm glad this one came out better.

Toon Link in Smash
Toon Link is, essentially, Young Link. A smaller, faster version of Link but depicted as a significantly different version so as to make the roster more diverse (I assume.)
It is said that one of the main features of Toon Link is that he's so much quicker than Link while carrying the same huge arsenal of weaponry is because of his 'Toonness. He pulls his equipment from hammerspace so when they're not visible they basically cease to exist.
That's all well and good but I would have really liked to have seen that idea pushed to its limits.

I want to see a Toon Link who isn't just a clone on Link, or even a diversified clone of Link. I want one whose moveset is derived even more from the games from which he originates: I want to see him yank the skull hammer, bigger than himself, out of his pocket. A deku leaf recovery? Maybe a grappling hook? There's a lot to choose from and while I think it's important for the main Link to retain the standard equipment, I think the other Links should diversify more.

Toon Link in the Zelda series
The 'Toon' series has become somewhat of a subseries all to itself and I think that's a pretty good idea. If the same few characters are going to appear in different eras then it's nice to differentiate each storyline with a different art style. I've always felt that the Zelda series was one that didn't take too many risks or tread too much new ground (less so nowadays though) but they do a good job of mixing art styles, something that I think Mario could still experiment with more.
