Description ...Ten Big Men!

Yes, it's Bananaman, popular British superhero who made the successful transition from comic to cartoon which in turn was voiced by The Goodies.

This particular picture comes fully equipped with a rather questionable "comic book" styled background.

We all love Bananaman.
I think I heard a rumour a while ago about a film being in development. Wouldn't that be a thing.

Bananaman film would be awesome as long as they didn't CGI it

Definitely. I wonder if he had the same affect as Popeye? When Popeye came out Spinach consumption raised substantially.

Yeah but I bet people soon learned that spinach tastes like refuse.
I once had it on a pizza and it was not appetising.

Probably. And then people thought less and less of Popeye. So sad...

A pity.

Unfortunately, this is one of the few cartoons that I remember watching, but I don't remember ANYTHING about it. Except that the main character was... I think a little boy. And whenever he ate a banana, he transformed into Bananaman. My dad thought this show was hysterical. This and Danger Mouse. I'm still partial to Count Duckula myself, though.

That's right.

Truth is, a lot of things I used to watch I tend to forget many details about until I'm reminded about them years later and do some research.
Such as The Real Ghostbusters and Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. But those I haven't done research on so I'm still kind of in the dark, but I have all the action figures!

I generally remember all of my childhood cartoons spot-on. So in England, they were called the "Hero Turtles"? Hmm... That makes sense. In America, they were called the "Ninja Turtles" and I recall seeing various promotional material for them referring to them as "Hero" turtles. I always thought it was some kind of weird bootleg, but was very confused when I saw that the artwork was of the same quality and style of the original.

For some baffling reason, this word "ninja" was outlawed in popular British media, so the Ninja Turtles become the Hero Turtles (I had only seen the cartoon and didn't know they were ninjas for years), Ninja Gaiden became Shadow Gaiden and Shadow Ninja became Blue Shadow.

Yes, I remember hearing of this strange turn of events. Is the word still taboo or is it allowed these days?

professorfandango In reply to FractiousLemon [2007-12-03 18:17:23 +0000 UTC]

No no, it's fine now, though I think it was only for the sake of the children, as the Turtles films were still the same.

What narks me know is how they renamed the Devil as "Demon" in the UK version of Brawl, when the game he originated from was released here, but not in the States because of the biblical references.

Ahh, Bananaman, one of my favorite childhood cartoons.

Wait, is it strange to be nostalgic about my childhood at 16?

NO.
Actually I'm surprised you remember it if you're only 16. My own memories were rather sketchy.

I think the BBC ran the series again around the time I was 7, thus I must of seen it then.

I only just remember it though, due to most of my childhood memories have been pushed to some dark corner of my brain to make room for more important things like Physics and Smash Bros combos.
