Description The Lord of Ironforge
November 2008
Wacom Intuos 9x12

It is odd to feel respect for a fictional character, but I feel it for King Magni Bronzebeard from World of Warcraft. The king of Ironforge, and therefore monarch to a fourth of the world's dwarves, Magni never desired the monarchy. However, circumstances led to his inheritance of it. I tried to make him look as though he is planning his next move, while simultaneously feeling a little lost and alone.

Just think. This Winter Veil you get to throw snowballs at him if you want that achievement.

I will throw the snowballs at him, but it will hurt me inside. Much like the opening quests for becoming a death knight.

Of all the Alliance leaders, Magni was the only one i really loved and would actually defend whenever the Horde did try and get him. Yeah, him and Velen're pretty awesome.

Neato picture too, I like his serious business expression, it definitely makes me think he's planning some shit that's gonna blow up them ice trolls hanging out at the airport.

Have you noticed that the Frostmane trolls are bigger and bulkier, now? The males, anyways. They're not quite as neanderthal-looking as jungle trolls, but they're definitely not the same model as player trolls.

Yeah I did notice that actually, most of the npc trolls i've seen have become the newer bulky model. It's the cannibalism clearly, because the Dark Spear Trolls totally gave it up when working with Thrall and now they're puny little jerks.

This is all Thrall's faults.

So yesterday i was in ironforge, about to hop a flight to Menthil Harbor and i saw a bunch of IF guards all milling around outside of the building were the king was. I went over to see what happened and on the ground was poor ol' Magni and about 19 horde dancing around him.

I thought of you.

I think of you whenever I see gang violence, too!

P.S. Magni let 'em win, it's part of his charity work

I very much like the subtle rosiness on his nose and cheeks, and the very long shadow cast by the raised stuff on his right shoulder piece. It lends an air of deep-in-the-mountain feel to the picture without being overbearing.

Thank you, thank you. The rosiness you mention is meant to be an under-lighting from the surrounding molten iron. Unfortunately, when applied to his clothing, it just looks like spilled Kool-Aid.

Nice work. I really like the strong lines, and the colours are very bold.

Strong lines and bold colors are apparently my strength when it comes to artistry, as I have heard that comment more than once - and frankly I like it, so thanks!

You're welcome. Personally, i think strong line-art and vivid colour schemes are fabulous artwork elements; i personally have been looking to incorporate more colour into my work, and i'm gradually getting there. It can be difficult to get the balance right, so respect to you.
