Some fun facts:
Battle mages are not nearly as vulnerable as their caster counterparts. Their arcane armor keeps them well-protected, so long as they have enough mana to power it.
A battle mage's biggest weakness is their mana intake when casting spells. They tend to use more than the average caster.
Their scarves represent how much mana they have left. If their scarf is missing, they've probably run out of mana!
