Description This day comes shining in (at least, that depends on how the weather is where you are) with Ra, the God of the Sun, and the most worshipped of the Ancient Egyptian Pantheon.
Β In my little sci-fi reimagining, Ra was one of the first people to settle a tidally locked world where one side faced perpetual daylight (given respites only by the orbit of it's planet), and the other in perpetual darkness, known as the Duat, and where dwelled horrific monsters. While exploring the furthest reaches of the Duat, he once made the mistake of dipping his hand into a powerful but dangerous source of energy that usually destroyed anything it touched, making a pipeline an unfeasible option.
This resulted in him being the only one who could safely transport the power source back to their colony on the bright side, by use of his own body, and also made him a target for the beasts of the Duat. Every cycle or so, it becomes necessary to transport Ra to the wellspring to retrieve the energy source and bring him back to refuel the colony. When he touches the wellspring, it gives him strength and vitality, but when he deposits it at the colony, it drains him and makes him the old man we see here, further necessitating the dangerous journey.
