Description
Well, well, well!
It is a long time since I remade some old artwork isn't it? XD
Do you remember the 2011 version?
Or the 2009 version that I linked on the 2011 version XD
So looong ago. And on none of the images you could actually see how big this dragon really is.
Also... I took a look at my description and the 'why?' and... it doesn't actually clarify anything XDD
I mean, yeah, I did this for my 100-theme challenge,
but what dragon is this?
So sit down for a little story-time with Nao
I will tell you the story of Frostclaw, an old myth that is told in Ror:
Deep, deep in the Satalbjoz, the big mountain range of Tyrus, lies a big lake within the crater of a former volcano.
It is said to be deeper than the mountain is high and the deeper you go, the warmer the water gets.
While there is a thick layer of ice on the surface, fish are said to live down at the bottom without any problems.
You have to cross this lake, if you want to cross the Satalbjoz, so many travelers made their way across.
Some of them never mentioned anything weird happening to them, but many others heard a deep rumbling.
Nothing strange since you could think the volcano could still be somewhat active. But others reported growling,
a sound like something big would move the waters below the ice. Still others thought they saw light and a big shadow
beneath the ice, a figure that looked like a big dragon.
An expedition travelled to the lake to find out the truth. They started cutting holes into the ice to get to the liquid water below,
but failed. The ice was so thick, three grown elves could stand on their shoulders while they still didn't reach the liquid water.
It took them weeks to get those holes open, and just as they thought they would reach the water, a storm approached.
Cold winds blew masses of snow through the freezing air and when the storm wore off, the holes were completely gone,
as if nothing ever happened.
The expedition had to go back empty handed since supplies were growing short and the weather could have gotten worse any day again.
Nowadays people don't even cross the Satalbjoz anymore for different reasons. But the legend of the dragon in the frozen lake continues to exist.
People called the dragon Frostclaw and think about why he could be there. Maybe he was a curious little dragon and fell under the ice to never escape
it again afterwards. Or maybe a curse is keeping him there. Maybe he protects some long forgotten ancient artifact or treasure.
Nobody knows why, or if there even is a real dragon below the ice. But the myth will always be passed on.
I hope you enjoyed it
It's always fun to add a little bit more to the lore of Ror. ^w^
