Description This is a "poster" style drawing I did of the current (and 6th) Ferratan Matriarch, Cecilia Antiochus. She is meant to be 86 years old, but since Ferratan humans age slower than Earthers, she looks more like she's 45. At least she's supposed to! The image was stuck in my head for a while, so I had to get it out on the page. And look! I actually did a background!

~lubyelfears was kind enough to draw the First Matriarch, Sophia Ferrata! I still can't believe she did it (in her beautiful style that I will never be able to achieve), so check it out here! ---> [link]

Thanks!

LOL, I can see now how you might think that! I guess the skirt part does look like Bastila. I should draw her more often! I'm actually surprised at myself that I haven't.

But I'm glad you like this picture!

Haha, thanks! Yeah, it's hard to find the time to draw, and I don't like to upload stuff too regularly, you know? Better to space things out.

I haven't done a portrait since, um... last year! Summer '09, I think. I did a very bad job drawing Frodo.

Oh yeah, it HAS been a while since you've drawn something! And hey, Frodo was excellently drawn! I don't know what you're talking about.

I was thinking of doing a whole series of his eyes, since they're very expressive eyes... but I haven't gotten 'round to it. Shame on meh!

Terrific! I enjoy the uniform and the blade on her wrist is killer; also, I like that you made her an older woman, she looks very powerful.

Thanks! I'm glad you like the blade; it's my own design that I made up for the Ferratans. To them it's known as the Blade of the Matriarch, since the first blade was forged by Sophia Ferrata (the First Matriarch) in her crackpot invention shop. You'll notice that my picture of "Our Lady of Ferrata" also holds the Blade of the Matriarch, since the only way the Blessed Mother would appeal to Ferratans is if she were dressed as a Matriarch.

And yes, older women need more adoration - they're incredibly hot! Female sexiness doesn't start until 40!!

I recall that! Draw more matriarchs!

Exactly! Just look at Demi Moore, who is the only one who should play Wonder Woman in my humble opinion.

I've been meaning to draw them all, but they don't all burst forth from my mind! Hopefully I'll get them all sketched so I can put something on my site.

In just a couple more years, Jennifer Connelly and Kate Beckinsale will turn 40...at which point I will want to throw a party commemorating the epic sexiness!

And not to mention the days when you sit down in front of your drawing board and in a whining voice say, "I don't wanna!" Or is that just me?

Speaking of sexiness, I just saw the movie 'The Watchmen' for the first time and I'm in lust with the guy who played Night Owl; he's such a beautiful man, chubby with the big glasses, and it was the first time I wasn't annoyed to watch a man/woman sex scene because I got to see him enjoying himself.
But that woman wasn't doing it right; she wasn't giving him pleasure at all! A noble and lovely man like that deserves that much at least.
Silly girl.

Promus-Kaa In reply to Shockwavecg [2010-01-05 01:43:19 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha! Well, that really only happens when I'm drawing something I need to draw, like a commission. Which I generally never get around to finishing...ugh, I'm pathetic.

Aw, that's really sweet and noble of you that you liked that guy so much. It warmed my heart to know that you saw him in such a friendly and loving light, even though he deviates from society's standard of male beauty.

I'm pretty sure that men generally enjoy themselves during sex; in fact, they're the ones who have to hold back until the woman can be fulfilled. Since it's the woman who's the challenging variable (since there are so many dimensions to her being), the focus during sex is (by default) generally on the woman. Unless it's a typical chauvenist patriarchal man-first situation where the woman isn't even supposed to enjoy sex at all and is just there to pleasure the man, who in turn doesn't give a damn what she feels...then that's different.

Oh man, that happens to me every time someone asks me to draw something for them. I always warn them that there is a high probability it won't get done or even started; unless it's for a grade of course.

He might deviate from normal beauty standards with his over-sized (owl-like) glasses, soft belly, and even a receding hair-line but he was the most beautiful man in the movie! He's a bad-ass once the suit is on but once it's off he becomes this shy, unassuming man gone to seed, and I was just smitten.
His character seems to be the type that tries so hard to be a good, decent human in the face of utter chaos but knows it's becoming almost impossible. He was the most endearing character of them all and I just wanted to hold him close throughout the whole film.

True, but I think it would be so much more fulfilling to see your partner cum by your hand. Seeing him in the throws of ecstasy would have been something wonderful. There's a scene in the movie where he and Silk Specter are about to have sex, but he can't get aroused; I wanted to smack her away from him and shout with my inner lolcat, "UR DOIN IT RONG!!1!"
She shouldn't expect him to do all the work, she needed to do some of the work too. I was thinking, "Oh just put down your skirt and *I'll* show you how you make *love* to a man like that!"

And the movie had an excellent sound-track! Simon and Garfunkle's 'Sounds of Silence'! I now want that played at my funeral.

Aww, that's really sweet of you. You're something really special, you know that?

You made me laugh out loud with your description there!

Simon and Garfunkel are fucking awesome. Nuff said.

Did the movie feel like it was taking place in the 1980s? I know that's when it was supposed to take place, but I didn't know how well they made it a period piece.

Shockwavecg In reply to Promus-Kaa [2010-01-25 14:35:03 +0000 UTC]

Denna' worry 'bout it! School happens.

Awww, shucks. ^_^ I ain't nothin' special, but thanks I actually kinda needed to hear that today, so extra thanks and hugs

Yeah, as the properly obsessed fan-girl I am I found out what movies he's been in, and it turns out he's been in one I've seen a while ago, but as a really heart-breaking character. He was also in Phantom of the Opera as the love-interest and oh boy can he SING! He can sing, dance, and be adorable without even trying. If you get a chance, rent the movie ' Passengers' He's in it and so is Anne Hathaway. It almost made me cry.
Oh, and he makes the best 'What the fuck?' face I've ever seen! Really, it looks like someone slapped him in the face with a trout!

Well she pissed me off! First running around in that skanky uniform and then doing the naughty with the character I like! I'm going to be a little bitter about her for a while. Grrrr...

YES! And you are fucking awesome for having agreed that they are fucking awesome! *internet high-five* When that scene came up I was stunned and thought, 'Oh my God, they're really doing a Simon and Garfunkel song! This is terrific! You never hear their music in a modern movie!"

Well, seeing as I was born in the late 80's and pretty much missed that whole time-period I can't quite say if it felt like it or not but that's when it's supposed to be taking place. Keep in mind though, it's an alternate reality where Nixon is still president and the tension between North America and Russia is escalating fast. I thought they did a good job on the film as a whole, but I hadn't read the comic at the time so all I had to go on was the talk from the fans of the comic saying how much it sucked. Which it didn't from a regular movie-goers point of view.

But you ARE something special! Aw, I'm sorry people don't tell you that every day, but hopefully I can tell you most of the time.

I just saw "Hard Candy" yesterday, which had Patrick Wilson in it, and boy, do I respect him a lot more for an actor! I hated the Raoul character from "Phantom," so I also didn't like him, but seeing him in another role really helped. Wow, is he good! I'm surprised he's not in more films...as hunky as Sam Worthington is, ol' Sam has no facial expressions EVER (so all that super-advanced facial recognition technology they used on "Avatar" was kind of wasted on him, I think), and Mr. Wilson is just...wow.

Haha, yeah, I hated the Silk Spectre outfit. In fact, I hate "Watchmen," but that's beside the point.

Daw... Now that really makes me feel happy, I'm feeling kind of sick and overwhelmed but now I'm smiling again. Thanks.^^

Damn it! I want to see that movie so bad!!! I know he's supposed to be a pedophile, but I really really really want to see him in a bad guy roll! And he wears glasses in the film too! EEEEEE!!!
Oo! If you liked him in that roll then you should rent the film "Purple Violets" Honestly, I've yet to see a movie with more natural characters and casual humor that you can believe actually happens in real life. It was fantastic and he and the other three main characters were terrific. Rent it!
Hey hey hey! Lay off of Raoul! He was a terrific guy and much better than the deformed pedophile stalker (which I don't understand why every girl swooned over) Raoul gets enough crap from them, he doesn't need any more. I will defend my man until the end!!! *pulls out sword*

Lol! Mr. Worthington is quite sexy, but I'd choose Mr. Wilson *any* day of the week. I love that man's eyes and mouth! A perfect Cupid's Bow upper lip; I've never seen that on a man before and I *love* it!!!

Really? Oh well; not every one's going to like it. My brother-in-law loved the comic but hated the film, and I've heard a lot of people hate the film who have read the comic. Since I saw the film first I thought it was great (the Rorschach prison-riot scene was like violence porn for me; it was the first scene I saw of it and it made me want to watch the film in the first place)
I read the comic just after the movie and liked the story-line for it being something I've never seen done before, and I was a little torn on the art-work for a while but I was very impressed at the artist's knack for timing in the frames as that's something that I find difficult. But both had a problem near the end, the premise started to shake and slip away during the explanation bit. That part still bothers me.

Good!! Well, I think I said that yesterday, so you're due for another..."You're a really special person and I'm happy to be your friend!"

What's keeping you from seeing "Hard Candy?" I know that independent films can be hard to find...is that it? If so, I can help in that regard...

Yeah, I couldn't understand why people sided with the Phantom so much! It's one of the only movies that made my Dad actually CRY at the end of it, because he related so much to the Phantom and thought it was really sad. Mostly because he's also one of those older guys who likes younger women. Ick.

Raoul was still annoying!

The main reason I don't like "Watchmen" is because, well, you know how I like the traditionalistic, old-school, pure-of-heart, paragon-of-virtue superhero(ine)s. I don't like the "anti-hero" or dark disturbed people who infest comics nowadays. The worst part is that people act like that's an uncommon theme, but it's NOT!! What's uncommon is superheroes who are, you know, HEROIC. THAT'S what's uncommon! It wouldn't be so bad if there was a BALANCE of both, for people who like one or the other, but people like me are left out in the rain. Superheroes nowadays are nothing but emo bitches in black leather. "Watchmen" takes the "dark" superhero TO. THE. EXTREME. by portraying costumed "heroes" as insane, fetishistic psychos who even go so far as to commit terrible crimes themselves, like rape. That's taking "humanizing" them to a degree which does the opposite of humanizing them.

That's a little much, no?

^-^ *has the happy!*

What's keeping me from seeing it? The fact that Family Video doesn't have it! They have so many other movies, not to mention a closed off section for porn, but they don't have that. I was quite sad, but they had 'Evening' and "Purple Violets" both Pat Wilson movies so I got them instead. Best dollar twenty I ever spent.

O_o...interesting.
All I could think during the movie was, 'Why am I supposed to be feeling for this guy?' and then when Pat calls out "Christine! He's not your father!" It went from that to, "Oh my god, she thought *he* was...and he was gonna...and *she* was going to *let* him...EEEEWWWWWWW!!!!"

*sigh* I'm sorry, but I now have to kill you. *advances and prepares to attack*
But first, perhaps this might change your mind a little; I wanted to avoid doing the squeeing fan-girl thing, but you forced my hand sir.

[link]

He rides a white horse for crying out loud! He is the best! When he's in that black and gold uniform I want to eat him up, and I adore him when he sword-fights. And I'll admit, when the Phantom was tying him up to the gate and pinning him down I almost creamed my jeans. But I was getting a serious ex-boyfriend vibe from the two of them.
Ah well, I still say Raoul should have let the Phantom have Christine (she turned out to be a ditts anyway) and run off with her yellow-haired friend who was cooler and more beautiful and had an awesome mom.
So because of that movie I have a new story where something like that happens. ^_^

I know you like those types, and you are correct, you are left standing out in the rain more often than not. The only place you can find heroes like that anymore are in kids comics, but even then it's iffy.
I Watchmen should have been the mediator if not the be-all end-all for a subject like that, because it explained why they'd be like they were and what it could do to you over a long period of time. You can't get a more detailed explanation than that. So perhaps for a time it should have eased up with the troubled hero thing.
But you can see why people kind of want it, can't you? For example, when Rorschach comes across that child-murderer and the guy says he has a problem, is sick, you know that guy would get off easy in a regular court system. So people kind of want an anti-hero who will take out the real trash, and they want to be able to connect with the hero on some level.
I know what you're feeling, and I'll do my best to help bring that classic hero back into main-stream culture for you. *salute* You shall enjoy comics again sir!

Oh yeah, I forgot that your library doesn't have a good selection, so you're forced to watch whatever the store has. It's strange that it's called "Family Video" even though it has a porn section in the back...

I can copy the library's copy of "Hard Candy" and mail it to you, if you'd like. I don't think it's illegal because independent filmmakers are all about going against Hollywood consumerism and making their films available to everybody!

Hmm, I hadn't thought about Raoul with Meg - I'm sure my Dad would have preferred that ending! I didn't really like Meg - she was too baby-faced, blonde, and her breasts were HUGE! Seriously, I don't know how she could walk upright with those things!

Her mom, though - DAYUM!! MILFtastic!! If I was Raoul, I would have said "fuck it" to the others and just gone with her!!

Thanks - even Hal Jordan's Green Lantern stories, which I loved, are now being printed minus the "superhero" thing. It's just an ultra-violent battle somewhere in space, which would be cool except that's not what I read Green Lantern to see, dammit! And enough with the ultra-violence - we get it!! You're "edgy!"

Shockwavecg In reply to Promus-Kaa [2010-02-06 16:15:21 +0000 UTC]

It's not a bad selection, it's just the more indie of a film it is the less likely they are to have it. It is a small town after all.
It is odd isn't it? I went back there to check it out once; I think I'll just stick with youtube and whatever I can find on here on Deviantart There's plenty here after all.
Their kids movies are free though, and all movies are only a dollar to rent.

Hmmm...I'd say 'yes' but for some reason burned movies don't play on my lap-top. My friend burned me a whole box-full for my birthday and none of them worked! They all worked on her computer and T.V. but not on any other. Thanks for the offer though!

Lol! Let alone dance and do those jumps! I don't know, I thought she was prettier; at least had some more weight on her.

I KNOW! Miranda Richardson is so great! And you're right, they would make a sexy couple.
Hmmm...*re-arranges story a little bit, makes some plot-adjustments*
Cool! Go check your notes for a story idea.

*chuckle* Poor Peter! I do see where your coming from on the newer Green Lantern issues they do seem to be getting a little ridiculous; what is up with the Star Sapphire group by the way? Skanky outfits represent the emotion of "Love" in its purest form now? And only women can receive the Star Sapphire ring? That's sexist. Acting like men can't have strong ties to Love is bull-chips; men feel love just as strong as women do but they show it in different ways. They may not always be so vocal about it or flaunt it everywhere but that doesn't mean they have less of a connection to it. My uncle can be a mean cuss and shoot his mouth off but there's no doubt in my mind how much he loves his family, my mom (his sister) and us. My grandpa worked three jobs and helped raise eight children while making sure my grandma always had time for herself and her friends. He did all for them and none for himself! And my dad, he's one of the most gentle people I know, he's big, quiet, and kind to everyone he meets even if he doesn't like them. And he's always been there for us in our worst moments to offer comfort when we couldn't find it anywhere else. If anyone embodies the concept and emotion of Love it's him!

Freaking women, and people wonder why I don't draw them and are so harsh on them.

Ah, maybe she was just doing it RONG!!!1 I should still at least try; it's an awesome movie that you HAVE to see, and by goodness I'm going to make sure that you do!!

Ooh, awesome!! *runs over to notes area as soon as he's done with this message*

Ugh, I hate those Star Sapphires! It's like, everything has to be made into it's own silly "group" now. The Blue Lanterns, the Red Lanterns, the Black Lanterns, etc, each powered by a specific emotion? LAME!! And the Star Sapphires aren't supposed to be "ring powered," it's a SINGLE DIADEM which the wearer wears on the FOREHEAD (while wearing a COOL outfit) which translates and powers the user's thoughts. Now there's suddenly all these knock-off Green Lantern groups, which are just there to make "BIG EPIC BATTLEZ U GUYZ OMFG VIOLENCE BLOOD IN COMICS WE R SOOO EDGY GUYZ ADD MORE BLOOD AND DISFIGUREMENT AND DISMEMBERMENT!!!"

And you're right, thank you for pointing it out, that it IS sexist to think that only women can "love" a certain way to get the ring. I'm sick of men being pushed aside and unappreciated, and not even being allowed to speak up about it. I mean, men love intensely; after all, it's men who have (for centuries) done incredible things and in some cases even given their lives to save the people they love. Not recognizing that, and saying that men's love isn't appreciated or important anyway just sends a negative message to the young men who read the comics - why bother? And that's depressing.

I think it's more her program isn't compatable with a lot of other systems :/ But what do I know?
Uhh...uhh...ehhh... *tch* Oh...what the hell. Sure, I'll send you my address and if you'd like to give it a shot send it my way and I'll draw you a picture in return (don't worry, it'll be clean. )

The only good thing about the Black Lanterns is that we can be certain Batman is dead because his skull is their power source. And couldn't they have been a little less cleeshay (don't judge my spelling!!! :-P ) about the color-meanings? Red for anger, and black for death, are they serious? Sadly, I know I'd be Red. But I still want to be Green! Green is the best!!
And the outfits for the Star Sapphires aren't that cool; skanky, yes, but...only cool if you're thirteen and horny.

So am I! And you are correct; comic books are the best way to reach young boys and men as it's most likely one of the first pieces of literature they will ever read all the way through (it was for me anyway) and if you're sending them messages like that, that men aren't capable of showing love and care about nothing then what will become of all the boys that read it? Who will they turn into? Comic writers have to start thinking; it's not just about sex-appeal, or instilling old stereotypes. They're reaching out to so many kids both boys and girls and showing something like the Star Sapphires not only hurts boys on the subject of how they should be, but also puts the wrong idea into girls' heads! I'm all for equality and all that, but not when one is more equal than the other.
Males and females are compliments of each other, but at the same time are one in the same; yin and yang, one has a bit of the other inside them so they are balanced. Men can't be cast aside! There may have been strife between our sexes in the past, but like the kids on the playground who were teased or pushed around we might just have to forgive and forget if we want to get on with life.
Does that make any sense? Or am I just rambling again?

Haha, great! Just note me your address and I'll try to do it sometime this week. You don't have to draw me anything, but it WOULD be pretty awesome...just as long as there's no gay stuff I'm fine.

Wait, the Blank Lantern's power source is Batman's skull? Are you serious? And YES, it's cliche!! Tying them to emotions is retarded, because Green Lanterns aren't "owered" by any emotions, just a general strength of will.

And no no no, I didn't mean that the CURRENT Star Sapphire outfits are cool - they suck! They look like if Witchblade was made out of bubble gum - or if the Star Sapphires roll around in that shit before going to battle. Either way it's retarded. I meant that the ORIGINAL Silver Age Sapphire looked cool: [link]

Here's a cool photoshop that shows what it would look like if the supermen were clothed the way superwomen usually are, and vice-versa: [link]
I wouldn't mind reading a comic book series like that! EQUALITY, bitches...

Speaking of which, as long as one is half-naked, to be truly equal, they should BOTH be that way: [link]

What you said makes PERFECT sense. You wouldn't believe how refreshing it is to read those words from somebody else - you're awesome! And now I've just told you that for the day.

Yup. I'm serious. And the Black Lanterns...are all...zombies.

Hahaha! Witchblade rolled in bubble-gum! Love it! !
And that does look pretty neat. Not sure how I feel about such a wide collar, but the rest of the design is great, and that particular artist I enjoy anyways.

...o_o...o_O...O_O...*grabs image and runs off to bathroom with it*

*cough!* You'll understand if I prefer the a fore-mentioned image to the truly equal one I trust. My apologies, but that's how I am.

Huzzah! I feel good now! Thank you! ^^

Oh! I have a book for you to read; it's called 'Sharpe Cut: The inside story of the creation of a major television series' by: Linda Blandford.
My parents got it for me for Christmas this year because they know I really like Sean Bean and adore the Richard Sharpe books and movies; it's all about the production of the film from months before arrival on-site and even a little after, what problems they ran into and how they solved them. As I've been reading it I've found it also has lots of good insider information on how a movie is made, at least for a movie made for T.V. There's lots of interesting technical tricks like how to light rain and snow; they say, "Light snow from the front, and rain from the back."
There are little tid-bits like that sprinkled throughout the whole book and more; you being a film-student I think you could really benefit from it.

I'm still planning on drawing that Mechroreaver for you; I was thinking about it this morning while walking to class.

I was all happy when they brought back Hal Jordan, but then I found out that they really DIDN'T bring back Hal Jordan. Meaning they might have brought back his physical presense, but the spirit of his stories is completely absent. It's just the normal "Watchmen" type stuff, except with Mr. Jordan. I hate comics today.

I'm glad you liked my little assesment of the shitty new Star Sapphire "outfit!" Now that you see what they USED to look like, I guess it makes the newer version look even more shitty!

LMAO!! You still have no idea how nice it is to see a girl like a dude so much. To be honest, I kind of prefer the fully-clothed Star Sapphire and the half-naked Hal Jordan, myself; it's more of a slap in the face of idiotic conventions. Let's see how you like it now! Let's cover up the women and have the guys run around in speedos!! How do ya like THAT, Stupid-Sexist-Chauvenist-Conventions?!?

I love how the photoshopper put the Lantern logo right on his crotch. SCORE!!

Wow, that book sounds really cool! I appreciate the recommendation; sometimes you can learn more from books like that than university courses on the same subject...

Oooo!!! I've been waiting for that!!

*pats you on the back* Someday there will be a comic that hearkens back to the silver/golden age of comics.

It really does; the silver age outfit is very sexy because it doesn't reveal too much but is more suggestive, and I like it because it's practical!

Lol! Thanks! My pleasure entirely.
I should start drawing sexy costumes for my favorite super-heroes; I'm surprised I haven't yet. I need to get on that.

That was freakin' awesome! Made of WIN!!

You really can.

Well, I actually finished the Mechroreaver!! I'm surprised, but very happy. I'll upload it on Sunday (my upload deviations day). Be on the watch! I really hope you'll like it...

I did find one comic, BEAUTIFULLY illustrated, that was "traditionalistic" and even used the married Silver Age Hawkman/Hawkgirl! And of course it had the real Hal Jordan. I think it was called "Justice" - I really ought to buy that trade! I wish there was an ongoing series of it, though.

Oooh, you should totally draw more sexy costumes for your favorite super-dudes. Are you a Superman fan, at all? I know that some women really like the Big Blue Boy Scout.

EEEK!! CAN'T WAIT! CAN'T WAIT!!!

Hawkgirl kicked major ass back then; I don't know about now because I haven't been keeping up with it, but I assume she's going the way of most comic book heroins. Tighter clothes with more holes in them, bigger breasts, and lips that look like they got stuck in a pool-drain. Am I right?
Did you mean The Justice League? That was DC's answer to Marvel's Avengers, and they were a spectacular group. On the original team...let's see if I can recall correctly; Hawkman and Hawkgirl, Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Elongated Man, The Atom, The Martian Manhunter, and Aquaman. There was also the Teen Titans which consisted of Robin, Aqua Kid, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, and Speedy (Green Arrows' side-kick) . I tell people that about the Teen Titans and they look at me odd, wondering why the characters from that freaky Teen Titans show aren't on my list. Those characters don't exist in my mind (at least not in the Teen Titans group, all of them are real characters as far as I know) The two girls on the show and Beastboy were part of a young superhero team that Superboy and Supergirl were part of at one point called the Legion of Superheroes. They were all in there late teens or early twenties. Now *that* was a great superhero team! There may have been a lot of them, but the art was great and the characters were all fun; Ultralad was my favorite!

Geeze, I know all that information pulled out of memory, but I still don't have my SS Number memorized.

I just realized as I was going through all that info that I *am* a fan of the First Son of Metropolis. Bigger than I thought, but his comics were the ones my dad had a lot of, so it's little wonder. WE LOVE YOU SUPERMAN!!
Teehee! I've got a few ideas. And lucky me, I can just trot on down to y!Gallery for some inspiration!

Hehe, well here you go! I really hope you like it, and that I didn't mess it up! [link]

Yeah, nowadays Hawkgirl wears a stupider outfit with bare midriff (because bare shoulders weren't skanky enough, dammit! ) and sometimes different pants. I haven't really bothered when those comics either, because again...comics nowadays suck! Your assessment was correct, I'm afraid.
I liked the Silver Age Hawk outfits, because Hawkgirl (Hawkwoman) was more covered up than her Hawkman husband, who pretty much wore tights and a bare chest covered with the leather x-shaped harness.

Oh yeah, I love the Justice League, but I'm talking about a trade paperback comic that they made recently with the JL characters in it. Here's the awesome cover with the villains on it: [link]
The art inside it is JUST LIKE THE COVER, too!! I orgasmed reading it! And it's all traditionalist and "good guy" heroic! AAAAHHH!!!

Meh, who needs SS numbers anyway, am i rite?

Supes will always rule! I just hope they actually make a good movie for him!

Aw heck I still love looking at it!!

Seriously? Damn. At least she wore the bare shoulders with class and never acted skanky.
Aw Hells yeah! Total bondage outfit!

Oh yeah! I know that artist! I love his uber-realistic style; my favorite is the close-up of Superman deflecting bullets off of his forehead and shoulders. If that's not fucking bad-ass then I don't know what is.

When my dad had all of his comics these were the artists I enjoyed the most.

Curt Swan (the quality on this image sucks)
[link]

Al Plastino
[link]

Mike Grell because he didn't mind making the male superheroes look attractive
[link]
[link]
And I freaking love this series!
[link]

And Jim Aparo is my favorite artist for Batman, and I can't stand Batman.

Only when it's drawn by him or back during the Sunday comics time.

Sorry, I got excited.

Lol!

...I liked Superman Returns.

That makes me happy to know!

Here's some images of Silver Age Hawkgirl:
[link] [link]

And the lame modern one:
[link] \
Not as bad as other modern outfit designs (*coughStarSapphirecough*) but the bare midriff is just so...OBVIOUS in it's pointlessness. And I'm pretty sure there's a cleavagey version of it, too.

ROFL at the "total bondage outfit" remark! Oh man, you never fail to crack me up.

Haha, I love that Superman poster - I've been meaning to get it one of these days!

OOOOOOOOOhhhh, just looking at those illustrations makes me long for the comics of old! If only they still made 'em like that - I know there are artists who can still draw like that, but they don't get hired as often for some retarded reason. I LOVE Mike Grell's art, especially the art he did for Green Lantern/Green Arrow. My sister especially likes his art, because like you said he isn't scared to make the dudes look good, and if you notice his panels are always filled with gratuitous man-ass shots! Always nice to see something for the ladies, for a change.

That "Warlord" comic looks exactly like something right up your alley! I'm surprised you don't like Batman, though - I kinda figured you'd like his style.

"Superman Returns" wasn't too bad, and I DID enjoy it when it came out (the visuals were fantastic) but let's just say it had more than just a few flaws.

The second image of Silver Age Hawkgirl is the one I recognize more, and even though it had no shoulder straps she wore it like she meant business. That one with the bare midriff is lousy; it screams 'TARGET' and all the bad guys have to do is shoot her in the stomach to beat her! I like the top half though, how it covers the neck, and I wouldn't mind if the arms were uncovered I suppose. If only it went over her belly!

It really is a bondage outfit! I've never seen a more leather-daddy uniform on any other super-hero; God bless you Hawkman!
I just noticed this; the Hawkman/girl symbol looks an awful lot like the Thundercats symbol. o_O

That would be bad-ass hanging on the wall!

Don't they though? I wish I could draw like they did; I'm putting them in my mid-program paper in the section about which artists inspire me. They might make me write about more famous artists when I'm in class, but when it comes down to it, these men were the ones who really inspired me.
Well back then I didn't know anything about physical attraction (I was still un-corrupted back then) I just knew I loved how he drew expressions on the men and their lips. I really liked how he did their lips.

It really is! I love the stories and the art is great; once again, he's not afraid to show off the male figure, and it's an older guy too! With facial hair! 8-D

Nah; I used to like Batman when all he did was solve crimes no one else could. He's gotten way too bitchy and annoying now; every one thinks he's so great because he's so dark he's awesome because he's lost the conscience that he used to have. Well, I'll tell you right now, that may work for some characters but it doesn't work for him. It's made me hate him so much when I used to love him.

I was just excited for it because James Marsden was in it and Brandon Rauth wore the costume like it was made for him. He was perfect for the roll and I'm sad that he hasn't been in anything since.

That's exactly what I always think! A bare midriff (which IS a vulnerable spot combat-wise) makes absolutely no sense. I mean, we can go ahead and presuppose that the "spandex" is actually an armor of some kind, but there's no excuse for bare skin like that. It's not even worked into the design very well - it's just THERE, slapped on so obviously! Like some of the Huntress outfits - that makes no sense, either. Now, shirtless dudes are one thing (pfft, like you ever see THOSE in comics!), but the pointless and painfully obvious bare midriff is just retarded.

But somehow, exposed skin on a dude doesn't look too bad; women in "metal bikinis" (like Red Sonja or something) is just dumb, but dudes in, say, Hawkman outfits looks fine somehow. Speaking of which, you seriously had me laughing at your "leather daddy" comment on Hawkman's outfit!!!

Yeah, I noticed the similarity in symbols, as well - I originally even got them confused, since I didn't (well, still don't) know much about the Thundercats.

I'd like to read your paper on artists who inspire you, so feel free to email it to me! It sounds interesting.

That's interesting about how you view Batman - kind of reminds me of a microcosm of the very same reasons I hate comics today. Everyone makes such a big deal about the "dark" shit, as if it's so edgy and new, but it's just the same-old same-old. Whiny emo bitches in black leather. Big whoop!

Brandon Routh wasn't too bad, but I did think he was too young-looking. And I absolutely hate Kate Bosworth. I just want them to make a movie where Lex Luthor is NOT the villain, and Superman has super-fights with other super-villains! He DOES have other super-villains, but people just don't know about them. They bitch and whine that "Well, Superman is indestructible so that makes it hard for people to relate to him," which is bullshit. They should just give him people to fight who are in his same "power class" - suddenly he doesn't look so indestructible!

Speaking of practical costume designs, I found this a while ago in a 'Wizard' magazine and thought they were the greatest X-Men uniform designs ever because they look like they'd be perfect for battle. The way they're drawn you can tell they have some thickness to them, even the woman's. Hope the link works.

[link]

Yeah! I don't know why that is; perhaps because muscles are more pronounced on men and they look like armor. I think that might be it.
Well he *is* a leather-daddy! That's standard attire for them!

Neither do I; all I know is Cheetara is the coolest out of them, even though I never saw the show.

Really? Great! Send me your e-mail in a note and I'll get it to you.

I guess I did sound a little hypocritical, didn't I? I do like darkness in comics (because I'm a dark person) but Batman...he's just too much. I think it's because he did such a nose-dive emotionally and became a bastard in no time flat.

True, he may have been a bit young...but he was very handsome, so I'll forgive him that. Besides, where are you going to find another Christopher Reeves? Or George Reeves for that matter?
Hey yeah! Why not have him fight Brainiac? Or Mr...Mr...uh...Myxxzenterplexx...damn. *googles Superman villains* Mr. Mxyzptlk! What about him! ...Can anyone pronounce his name? I don't think even his creators can.
Oh I hate it when they give Superman crap like that; how the hell is he difficult to relate to? They just haven't read the comics from the sixties and seventies; I always found him to be relatable, and I was ten!
And if they want characters in his power class then have him fight Doomsday again! Almost killed him! Does no one recall that?! Besides, Braniac is his better villain because to balance out his great strength he needs a villain that is all brains!

Wow, those costume designs are really cool! They're modern while still keeping a traditionalist vibe, and it does look like there's armour under that spandex. A buddy of mine who draws comics did a really cool picture of Batman (old-school) where he had "battle damage," and in his design you could see armor covered by the spandex. [link]

And a couple others that are totally badass! [link] [link]

People always ask me to note them my email, but I have it posted for all to see in my main page info. It's ptulay@hotmail.com!

Superman was relatable to people in the old days, he was relatable in the cartoons (the Bruce Timm animated shows which were AWESOME), so why do they think people wouldn't relate to him unless he was constantly de-powered or "out-smarted" by Lex Luthor or given a bastard son? I mean, come on. I want to see him beat the shit out of some supervillains!

Haha, Mr. Mxyzptlk - I copied the spelling from your original comment. But yeah, he would be cool! Or Parasite. Or the Cyborg Superman. But Brainiac would be really cool, especially in today's world of computers.

The problem with making a more comic-book style of Superman movie with a "rogue gallery" of villains that Superman has to fight in each movie is the aura that the original movies with Chris Reeve made. The Superman in those movies (which is the Superman in everyone's mental image) is a grand, god-like figure...who really doesn't DO anything. He doesn't fight villains every week, he doesn't stop crimes, he just...exists. He only deals with threats to his immediate existance, in the form of Lex Luthor who wants to kill HIM for some reason. Not attacking alien space monsters from another dimention who want to destroy Metropolis (or the world), but just a god-like dude who has to deal with a crazy human, only when the crazy human tries to kill him. If someone made a movie where Superman fights all sorts of villains, people would think that's "cartoonish" and "not in line with how Superman was meant to be," despite the fact that it IS how Superman is meant to be. Dammit, this shit just pisses me off...which is why I don't really like the Chris Reeve movies at all. Not only did they fuck up Superman, but they fucked up Superman in the public image and made it impossible to show the REAL Superman without people thinking it's stupid.

Holy shit! That is an awesome drawing your friend did! And those are some great dramatic images! Thanks for the links! *fave, fave, fave*

Oh yeah, I forgot. It's sent so I hope you enjoy it.

I was looking up Bruce Timm to recall his work and found this interesting little movie review on Superman: Doomsday

[link]

I enjoyed this movie, but only because I never was able to read the death of Superman story-arch, but was pleased that this reviewer recalled the Supermen that attempted to fill the void of the origanal Superman (John Henry in particular; loved that guy!) The review brings up a lot of good points and is interesting to hear.

Yes! Beat the shit out of people! That's what everyone crys for but when they're presented with it they act like spoild kids and turn their noses up at it!

Those villians would be great, but I think a lot of people would want to see him fight Krang, that super-powered ape. Not sure why, but okay. If you have him then I think you should have Mr. Mxyzptlk even though he is a little campy. Superman is powerless against magic, and I always liked to see how he was able to get Mr. Mxyzptlk to say his name backwards. The best issue for that was when Mr. Mxyzptlk lost his voice so Superman had to be even more clever than usual. That's another thing, he really is a very intelligent character but people tend to over-look that because they're too buisy making fun of how gentle of a person he is. > Stupid people.

That's true, and the last thing people want to see is a re-make, although sometimes I think that's what they secretly want even though they protest it.
For crying out loud people! Bring in the alien threats! That's what kept the comic going is the fact that Superman had villians from other planets that matched his streanght and wits! Hell, make him fight a friend if you want drama! freaking bring in Ultralad! Have them fight!

Okay...I'm going to say it. I want to see Krypto in a Superman movie; I miss Superdog.

Hehe, I'm glad you liked those pictures. Heubert Khan (his real name) is a good friend of mine and a FANTASTIC artist. I really like how he draws women, too - realistically-proportioned, and he does things like NOT give them a wedgie when they're wearing spandex (which means their supersuits don't perfectly outline every curve of their asses when he draws them). I helped him get his PayPal account running so he could start taking commissions (from me, as well!), and he's really going places in the comic artist world. He was recently commissioned by DC Comics to do art for their Holiday Issue!

I haven't seen "Superman: Doomsday" yet, but I want to! John Henry Irons is a cool character, but they haven't really given him a good screen treatment (yet). They made a movie about him starring Shaquille O'Neil back in the '90's, but it was pretty lame.

Oh man, Krang would f*ckin' rule! And you bring up a good point about Superman's personality; we never really get to see that in the movies! In the comics, he's not just a gentle and kind man, but also extremely intellegent and witty. I guess they felt the need to "dumb down" Superman in the movies in order to make Lex the "brains," while Superman is the "brawn," but that's just retarded. I'm sick of Lex being the villain, anyway.

Hell yes for alien villains! It can't be cheesy, since, you know, SUPERMAN IS AN ALIEN, so they can't claim that introducing alien villains and characters in a Superman movie would be cheesy (since they already have an alien character). And Zod doesn't count, I'm sorry.

Krypto? Eh, that's not such a bad idea, but then I'm afraid that the film would turn into yet another kiddie dog flick.

And no camal-toe thank god!
If I could draw like that I'd be set, and that's amazing that he was commissioned by DC!

It's not that bad; not to fond of the style, but it's an interesting story overall. You know, I just heard about that movie last night; it was the John Henry Superman wasn't it? Damn it, why did they have to go screwing around with my favorite version of Supes aside from the origanal?

Same here, and movie-makers are real dicks for fucking up characters like that. Shit, now I'm getting riled up thinking about the Green Lantern movie and how that's going to get ruined.

Uh, yeah, no, Zod doesn't count. Let's get some REAL aliens in the movies please, ones that can kick some major booty. Rip apart tanks with their pinkys, knock down a whole building with a sneeze, and be able to fuck concrete.

Yeah, I'd be afraid of that too; I think movies based around animals are automaticly deamed childrens movies, which is not always the case, see Watership Down for confermation. I'd also like to see Superhorse (just because I adore that idea) and I'd like to see him and Krypto team up. Heck, put Streaky in there as well, but I will set the screen writer on fire if they put in that damn chimp. Fucking chimps ruin everything!

Ugh yes, camel toes are just wrong! Not all vaginas look like that - plus a ton of pubic hair should obscure certain details, so a camel toe is usually an indicator of a bald vagina. Which is gross.

Yep, it was this movie: film
I saw a video of it at Goodwill for 25 cents, so I figured I'd get it and check it out. It's pretty bad...the only cool thing about it (besides the armor, which isn't done as well as it could be) is the fact that it has Richard Roundtree (aka SHAFT!!) in it.

Ugh, don't get me started on the Green Lantern movie! Ryan Reynold's doesn't look TOO bad for it, but somehow I feel like it's going to be made into a comedy or something. And Blake Lively as Carol Ferris? Isn't one of Carol's distinguishing features her raven-black hair...and they cast a blonde?!? And I'm opposed to any Green Lantern movie that isn't a "period piece" that takes place in the 1960's. They made "Watchmen" which took place in the 1980's, so I don't see why they couldn't have gone all 60's on us.

LMAO "be able to fuck concrete!!!!11!" The thing I didn't like about Zod and his compatriots is that we never really got to see them fight Superman that much. They just did random shit and had scene after scene of them showing off how strong they are. It's like, WE GET IT!! THEY ARE STRONG! NOW LET'S SEE THEM USE IT IN BATTLE ALREADY!!"

I want to see Superman layin' down the PAIN!!! I wanna see him clock some fool!! I wanna see THIS on the fuckin' big screen!! [link]

Then shall we agree that Krypto probably shouldn't be in the Superman movie? The piano-tossing toddler was bad enough.

*thinks about camel-toe and vomits in mouth*

Ugh...sheesh. I can understand buying it for Richard Roundtree though, I've rented some strange and bad movies just for an actor. Speaking of which, my friends made me watch the 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' movie. I tell you, I have never wanted to dig my eyes out and stab my ear drums with rusty rail-road spikes more than that. The only saving grace for the movie was them having Rutgar Hauer as the head vampire. Everything else was so so sooo bad. It burned Peter...it BURNED.

I don't even want to see it now; I know it'll be made into a farce, and I won't be able to stand it. Now, if it was done in this way with THIS actor, I think I could watch it. I wish they had gotten this guy; he would have fit the bill.
[link]
I think this guy has a better emotional range and a way more expressive face.
I would like it to be a period peice as well, but it seems everyone hates history if it doesn't have enough genocide.

LOL! That 'fuck concrete' came from a fake viagra comercial a friend showed me. XD

OH HELL FUCKIN' YEAH!!! LET'S SEE HIM DOLE OUT SOME HARSHNESS!! I want to see a punch that splits a city in half!

See? THAT helps. Thank you for, as a woman, expressing a distaste for female anatomy. Gives me a small tiny glimmer of hope amongst the sea of...other stuff.

Haha, I actually only learned about the "Buffy" movie recently - I had no idea that he started the story out with that. Joss Whedon said that the movie was kind of butchered from too much "studio interference," and that a lot of his concept was lost. But at least he was able to continue with something that was much cooler.

That was a pretty cool trailer! Whoever did it did a good job of physically editing the footage and effects, like erasing the antennae from the Andorians from "Star Trek" in order to make them fill in for the Guardians.
I'm not sure about Nathan Fillon for Hal Jordan, though - he's not handsome enough.
You're right about the GL movie becoming a farce - I mean, they hired comedian actor Ryan Reynolds to play Hal! I have no idea why people say they can't take GL seriously, but I'm kinda getting sick of it.

Since you brought that up I hope you'll accept my apology for that long note. You asked me something and I did not give you an answer and turned it around to a topic that had little to nothing to do with the real issue. I hope you will forgive me.
You really are a terrific guy and I don't know how your mind became twisted to think you are anything other, but I think you're fantastic. I always enjoy your conversation and our lively debates; you have a vivid imagination and rock for being the level of sci-fi geek that you are *internet fist-tap* You are also one jaw-droppingly handsome fellow (no fooling Pete, I hope you're listening) and women should be knocked off of their feet. Oh, I definately accept your apology - there's nothing to apologize for really, anyway. I kind of figured that you meant to write one thing and then got derailed onto something else - goodness knows I certainly do that! I'll be talking about Classic Star Trek and then suddenly I'll go on and on about how the other shows are retarded because they tried to rewrite and retcon this, that, and the other thing...argh! People usually then phase out and stop listening at that point, which then I realize I was fuckin' up.

And I really do appreciate what you said...it really makes me feel valued.

And let me also say that you're the most awesome person I've talked to online as well! You're really, really awesome and although I don't quite remember how I ran into you on dA, I sure as hell thank God that I did!!

I never actually saw "Firefly" or the movie version, mostly because of the type of scifi it seemed to represent (the opposite of the kind that I liked, lol) so I avoided it. But after seeing how awesome "Dollhouse" and "Angel" were, especially with the character interactions, I think I might give it a shot. That's why I'm confident in him doing "Avengers" - he's probably the most qualified guy to do a film with multiple main characters and have them interact in a natural, "human" way that is also amusing and endearing. The guy is a genius!

Plus, I'm not sure if Wasp Girl is even going to be in it.

Aw, that's nice! Yeah, I guess Nathan Fillon is good-looking, but I just picture the whole Hal Jordan storyline to be a period piece taking place in the 1960's (like that popular show "Mad Men," which proves that 1960's-period-pieces will still be popular with audiences), so I pictured someone more 60's-manly as Hal. The one thing I heard recently that has made me want to give Joss Whedon a chance is that when Firefly was cancelled (mid-season I believe) I heard he gave all the actors parts on Buffy so they still had jobs. Now *that* is a good man.

I would *LOVELOVELOVE!!* it to be a period-piece! I adore the 60's and 70's but would enjoy it being in the 50's or even 40's as well.
He's kinda good-looking, but he looks a little too All-American-Hero for a roll like that, build and face-wise I mean; a bit too tall and too.. well, I'd rather see him play a Superman type character. I'll bet he's got the acting ability, but just doesn't give off the feeling of Hal Jordan to me.

Well, I'm glad you were able to respond this time!! I always look forward to your messages, and I continue to be eternally grateful to you for your very kind, very self-esteem-boosting words.

Have you seen the latest images from the Green Lantern movie? Sadly I don't think it's going to be a period piece (bummer, but I'm glad you would have wanted to see it, too!), but here's the costume...(SPOILER warning, of course, on the looks)

What do you think? I'm REALLY glad they had the guts to give him his mask AND do the "whited out eyes" look. His suit isn't spandex sadly, but it really looks like something his ring generated around his body. I'm just disappointed they didn't give him his white gloves...

Here's another of Hal Jordan (played by Ryan Reynolds): [link]

What do you think? Is he hot enough to play Hal? I can buy him in the role, no problem...Ryan Reynolds is also NOT a douche and seems like a cool guy, so I'm glad he's in the role.

Although I loathe Blake Lively: [link]

And since you're a big Thor fangirl, here's an image from the upcoming "Thor" movie that you may not have seen...it features Anthony Hopkins as Odin (the big guy in the middle), and Thor is to the left while some other dude is on the right. [link]

What do you think?!?

Any time you need a boost just ask. ^^

*heavy sigh* Ehhh...I'll be honest, when I saw the cover of that Entertainment Weekly in my friend's mailbox I was cussing in text-speak in my head. I was not happy, and I'm still not.
I dislike the uniform, I dislike the casting choice, I dislike the time-period, and I dislike the fact that it seems not only that it's not going to be taking place in space, but also that Sinestro is not going to be in it.

And I hate the chick.

Now about the Thor movie...

I am trying not to get my hopes up about it, but it does look pretty flippin' sweet!!!
The only nit-pick I have is that I would have had Sean Bean playing Odin ^^ Other than that Thor looks brilliant! I just hope they don't try to make it seem like Thor isn't actually a God to avoid conflict with religious groups who would scream that it's corrupting their children away from their faiths. I can see that happening.
