Description man.....dude. I tried to draw a blush. So much for working!!

This is Profane, more of what he really looks like. Yay!!!

EDIT: I made his blush more prominent, and my computer screen makes things darker so it LOOKS too prominent to be natural with the skin now to me, but I can change it back. Added some more to his ears and neck as well. I also erased some stray lines that were bugging me. Sorry for the edit!

AMAZING. This is really, really awesome. I've never seen you draw a picture of one of the demons and have it look so human/lifelike. It's definitely really great! Although I do agree slightly with your edit, it's a bit too prominent -- just around the nose, though, the rest is fine -- but it's still so amazing! Yay!

Pronkbaggins In reply to kore-karasu [2008-11-23 19:01:22 +0000 UTC]

Aw thanks that's a huge complement! My entire goal was to draw Profane as lifelike and accurately as possible, but I don't know, I guess it's the closest so far but not nearly there.

Yeah I had the blush way way lower, but then some people said they couldn't see it on their moniters so I repainted it a ton and you're right-I was thinking the same thing about the nose. I don't know if I can ever capture the inhuman qualities of a demon while still trying to make them relatable-there are too many perfections there to be had.

I also discovered that blond hair is the worst to paint. Even worse than red!!

Aw thank you though! You are always nice to me. Thank you for the favorite, too, I can't thank you enough.

It's pretty close! It's really amazing how lifelike he is in this photo. I'm sure there's room for improvement somehow [although i wouldn't know how, not being an artist.] but it's really amazing as it is! If you CAN somehow improve, I can't wait to see it!

Mm, I can see how it was necessary. On the cheeks, it's just the right amount. It's just the nose that's a little off...

Yeah, I can only imagine -- blond hair? No thanks!

It's fine it's a great drawing, of course I'm going to fave it!

I really can't tell you how nice you are to me....those complements are just too flattering it makes me want to try to do more realistic portraits...

do your thing, girl. I'd love to see more of that, it would be great. and I
am only giving you the truth. through the two years that I have known
you, I have seen you progress from what I looked up to as a new deviant
and I want nothing more than to express that to you. you are one of the
only artists around here who is able to have such a realistic style and still
show it so animated. at this point I myself am trying to lean away from
manga with my style and make it more realistic and you in a sense can
be my inspiration.

also, you with your nice comments are what keep me going and I
appreciate that. in a sense I could say "you scratch my back, I scratch
yours." :]

Hahaha aw thanks! Wow...those words are really meaningful to me. I've actually been inspired by your clean lines numerous times throughout time when I have been looking at your art. You need to submit more! I miss your art!!!

Wow you know I don't know if I deserve an honorary complement that high as to say I have the ability to do that. You really flatter me too much! I'm way too spoiled. Aw I'm so so so happy to hear that! I always feel so mediocre when it comes to helping out with comments and feedback...I feel like I always fail. I cannot thank you enough and I completely agree! You inspire me as well.

with hope you will see some soon, but it will be in my scraps because the
next submission will be in colour and I don't know what that one will be yet
and I can't find my smoother sketchbooks....

but nonetheless, love you, love. <3

OMG *runs to your scraps* You should put it up in devs anyways! None of your stuff deserves to be in scraps.

I love smoother sketchbooks.

inorite? also, the only thing that is going in my deviations are full-coloured,
conceptual black and white inked, and writing with a picture relating to it. if a
picture doesn't meet to those standards, they go under no category.

what is in my scraps is related to what is coming up as my next scrap.

Hmm that's a really good point! I actually hadn't thought of that. I was using greyish skin overlay on lush red. I think that's why it turned out a little unnatural. You have great suggestions, I'll definitely try it. Thank you!

And thank you so much for the complement! It means a lot!

Aww thank you! I was also wondering if you had tips on dried blood on skin. I've been wondering about that...I know you'd use darker tones of red and brown, but I don't know about the texture. Thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PaleMajesty In reply to Pronkbaggins [2008-11-23 02:50:22 +0000 UTC]

Dried blood on skin, eh? I don't think I've ever really tried to paint it... From what I remember though its flakey and, not gritty but not smooth either. It also stains, so bear that in mind. I suggest looking for photo references - or take a leaf out of Turner's book and experience the real thing, you know that man hung out of a train window just so he could experience the rush of the train's movement? That's dedication to your art for you, and it pays off. I'm not suggesting you intentionally harm yourself, but if you ever get the chance to SEE dried blood on skin in real life then by all means take that oppertunity to familiarise yourself with its texture, smell, look etc {yes, smell, I try to take smells into account when painting, believe it or not } use all your senses when observing something. But other than that, look around the net, or in books, for dried blood references, however, I should warn you that searching for any kind of blood references needs a strong stomach, as lots of murder scene photos come up - I'm not personally phased, but you know

You're too nice! Thank you so much! I had high hopes for this picture but...I don't know anymore. But thank you!

His situation is complicated, because he's in love with a human girl (we call her Lizoretha or Liz) and that's a pretty rare occurrence. They got separated, though, after only six days together after they found out about their feelings.

Aw thank you! You're so sweet! Aw I cannot ever thank you enough

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChimouStar In reply to Pronkbaggins [2008-11-22 23:24:12 +0000 UTC]

Aawww, that's so sad... T_T How did they get separated?

You're welcome

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Pronkbaggins In reply to ChimouStar [2008-11-23 08:39:35 +0000 UTC]

It was kind of complicated...the human girl was being used as a host to a sort of divided spirit of a vengeful person who possessed bodies, which sounds weird, sorry. However Liz learned to suppress her (the possessor) until one day when she experienced an emotionally heavy event and the spirit used the emotions as a way to get at Profane in a way that resulted in him running away from shame. Of course this caused more emotional distress, so the spirit began bringing havoc upon everyone until finally Liz, being used as a host, found and confronted Profane. He couldn't stand seeing her being used as a host to something so vile and helped her put it to rest, but not before it did more damage than good. Of course then Nameless, Profane's older sister, came into the picture and took over, which was a worst case scenario considering that she is one of the most evil people to deal with. This resulted in around four years and counting of separation between them and many other couples (but this is the only human/demon couple) and counting. So yeah.

Wow that was a huge explanation. I'm sorry if I'm boring you. You're so sweet to be asking and such, I'm sorry if I rambled for too long.

!!!!

No no, I think it's very interesting! It's just so sad. T__T Do you make comics of your stories? Cuz I really like them! Nameless sounds like a real bitch. XD But that's what makes stories more interesting!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Pronkbaggins In reply to ChimouStar [2008-11-23 08:47:26 +0000 UTC]

Aw thank you so much! I guess it's sort of human to focus on the sad parts more than the happy. I mean there are happy parts too, but yeah.

Hmm...actually, I never really considered it. That would be cool! If people would read them, I might be able to make some comics. You're so nice to me!

That's definitely one way to describe her, I agree. She's definitely unique in the way that nobody really knows what went wrong....she was definitely into pyromania for a long time, but why she decided to disconnect herself from any sort of bonding and becoming abusive is disconcerting and apart from her species. You're too nice to me, I can't believe you're interested in this I thought people were kind of mad at me for posting up so much stuff about the backstories.

You're welcome! Yeah, I agree. There's happy stuff everywhere. If people want happy, it's not hard to find! And yeah, happy parts are good too. I just think you're really good with writing these stories. ^_^

You should try making one! I bet people would love it. You're an awesome artist. <3 And the stories are great.

That's sad that she is like that. I feel bad for her in a way... I wonder why she's so mean.... T_T
Of course I'm interested! Who wouldn't be? Why would they get mad at you for posting them? XD It's not like they HAVE to read them, even though they should.
