Description The year is 2152. Mans accomplishments to colonize different worlds is now a reality and not a dream. Technology is being developed more rapidly than people anticipated and new dreams are now becoming fulfilled.
---------------------------------------- ------
Life on Mars. It’s hard to think that man has been able to conquer all battles in creating a stable atmosphere for living organisms to survive within. Human existence is spreading hastily and numbers are now reaching 15 billion. It is imperative for the human race to expand before all resources are utterly depleted.

Stable cities are being deployed on Mars’ surface and new merchant ships are nearly constantly flying in and out of space ports with cargo and passengers.

How far will this go before all resources are exhausted in our solar system. Only time and technology will tell the future before we are wiped out.
---------------------------------------- ------

I'm very impressed with this piece, its taken me the whole day almost to make and the planet you see is the newest resource file i've submitted for you to use.

Everything 100% photoshop besides the ships which were rendered from 3dsm.

I hope you like the image Fullview is a must!!!

All around it looks great but to be a lil picky, the ships look a bit on the choppy side and the sin is a bit bright for my liking. In other words this is a great WP I love the planet design especially the lights on he right side. Great job.

great piece indeed you've got here man

thers only a couple of things i'd change (if i was good enough at this to...). the sun, or light source, you could have rendered an omni light with some lens flare effects and use it there

bout the ships, makes me remember so much of starship troopers but you could have made them a bit different, not much, you could just cut the front part of one and make some more extrusions, and the other one could have some stufflike towers or such.
damnit, that happened to me too, but with some other things, if you look closer to that ship, in its bottom left corner, those damn edges, how do you fix them, blah i hate wen it happens

i know that lights prevent you from seeing stars, but the area near the little planet could have a bit more stars, or else, you could darken the planet (just a matter of the blending between the planet and the black space)

and as jesse pringle said, you shouldnt have worked so much time in such a small period, you could have split all of it through several days.

the planets texture is awesome indeed, and the lights give it such a feel. actually, wat makes you look differently is the background story you created, and i think thats wat most space scenes lack nowadays, so great work

Thanks for the big comment lol, i dont even know how to use 3dsm, i downloaded the ship models and textured them with shitty jpgs and i dont know how to make flares in 3dsm so if you could help with that i would really appreciate it

i have no freakin idea where your looking or what 3dsm version you have cuz i can't see anything your talking about for the settings

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

o-portista In reply to psamtik [2003-11-27 16:19:48 +0000 UTC]

here it is:

you go to the create section (god i sure hope you know where that is or else..), select lights. create a omni light. then, in its settings, go to the parameter rollout, and select atosphere and effects(or something like that) then theres an empty blank space with some buttons, chose the one that says add, and select the lens flare effect. then youll get a window with a couple of blank spaces with some effects. play around with them and see the effect in the renders.

thers also a tut in the program that teaches you this, in the planet tut i think. (btw, im kinda noob in 3dsmax too )

It's nice.... very good work, really, BUT......

I feel something weird about the small bits of asteroids (or satellites) : either the planet surrondings are too clean, and you should add more, or you should remove them.
It's just I feel them misplaced, in this too-clean space.

It's a too much or too less case.

Sorry for interfering right in the middle of all those kind (deserved) comments !

REAL nice, but the ships are really low poly, plus there isn't any antialiasing. the specularity also looks weird. i could contact you and give you some pointers on how to do space lighting. the mars, however, is really good. the lights on the right are a wee bit too intense, IMO.

silentglaive [2003-11-25 00:54:05 +0000 UTC]

whoa the prettiness... i love the blending of colors and the planet.... the only problem i have with it is the lighting on the ships. on someparts, it isn't uniform enough, so it looks separate from the rest of the picture. but overall, i like this!

JessePringle [2003-11-24 07:58:21 +0000 UTC]

it looks great. i especially like the planet!

I hope you don't mind a little critique:

Probably the only things i dislike about this is that it seems you rushed the ships a bit and the asteriod types things (Mars' moons ?). I spot heavy jagged edges on the ships and the lighting could have been worked on a little more (maybe you could give it an orange lighting to them). Also, I think those asteriod type things should either get dropped or get worked on more because they just look too fake to me. try giving them more texture and better lighting, or something (ever thought about rendering the asteriod type things in your 3Ds MAX program?)

Also I know this image isn't supposed to be at perfect scale, but Earth seems way too close. Ah well, this is SCI-FI not a realistic space illustration so it doesnt matter

concerning the time period you spent - sometimes a piece could look awesome during the time you're working on it, but then it could look totally different and maybe even very crappy in some spots the next day. I think it's a pretty good idea to take a bit of time to just sit there and stare at your work in progress and allow yourself to see the problems you might spot out and see what you could do to it. It's also a pretty good idea to do that a few hours over a few days (maybe even a whole week) because you'd give yourself the chance to refine and perfect the image.

so what i mean is that spending a few hours over a few day period on a piece is much better and more rewarding than spending hours over a 1 day period because you allow yourself to refine the image and perfect it as many times as you need to. (also you get the chance to work on other projects and do whatever else you need to) But that's just what I would do .

hmm well not sure if you can use any of that but I hope it helps some. This is really nice work (I also really like your thoughtful description)...but heh it could use some little touch ups here and there and a bit of refining.
keep it up!!!
