On eBay until 1/22/13! /spams everywhereLong time no see! Here's a look at what's been eating away at my free time over the last couple of months. I don't have as much time for customs as I used to sadly, what with school and babyraising ;_;
I've always wanted to try customizing a Monster High doll, and after scouring the web and seeing no previous attempts as Rarity I thought she'd make an excellent first project! Ponyville's finest designer and seamstress is obviously the best choice for a fashion doll if you ask me
Her hair has been rooted with Dollyhair's nylon in Sour Grapes, and everything has been painted with high-quality acrylics. And yes, the cutie marks ARE on both hips!

I just bought a black and white Frankie doll to turn into Derpy! I bought her because she already has grey skin. Do you think you could give me some tips like painting smoothly, hair rooting, ears, or tails? Possibly clothing?

Sure, but I have to warn you, I'm still new at doll customizing too!
For rerooting, I used this tutorial: [link] That website is also where I buy my hair from. Derpy's haircolour will be their nylon in "Lemonade".
You can buy ears here: [link] and wings here: [link] and unicorn horns here: [link] There are also some different sizes/styles on the site. The ears and horns come on little screw-like poles already, so you just have to drill holes in your head and stick 'em in there. I recommend attaching the ears before rehairing :3 For wings, you might need to drill holes in Frankie's back, since the wings they sell come with posts designed to work with the Create-A-Monster torsos. Rochelle might work too, if you don't mind the speckled texture.
Painting smoothly is a breeze! Just thin your paints with a little bit of water, do multiple coats if you have to, use fine brushes, and for angular shapes like eyelids and lashes, it helps to draw them as "shapes" and fill them in than to try to flick off thick brush strokes into points.
Finally, as far as clothing goes, I am completely useless xD I always just buy mine from Etsy. Bratz and Mystixx Vampires clothing fit well, too.

Actually, do you have any tips on taking out the hair plugs? I'm having a bit of trouble.

It's best to cut the hair super short and pull it out from the inside of the head through the neck hole. If you can find a cheap pair of forceps to use, they're a godsend!

She might be one of the dolls with really thick glue holding the hair in. Have you tried sticking the business end of a screwdriver up inside and breaking it loose?

Man! I wish I would have thought of that. My mom told me to let the head soak in Acetone but it completely ruined the head so now I have to get a new doll and just redo the head...

She's so beautiful oh my goodness. I don't collect Monster high (The last thing I need is another obsession haha) but I kind of want her anyway. It's really sad that all my money is currently being used for school...who needs education anyway?
