Actually, the smaller, the easier. Just clean up the lines a bit, and avoid making corners if you can. [link] You can see here (feel free to download and zoom in) that I tried to avoid corners. Even though this is old now (uploaded June), I'd be happy to redline this if your interested. I'd basically show you where you can clean up and avoid placing pixels next time.

I find it pretty hard to do smaller things and get them to look right, but I dunno, I don't actually have much experience in pixel art XD And thanks for the critique, feel free to redline if you want

If you do like 100x100 or smaller, you can zoom in at ~ 1100% to get a clear look and easy placement. I made the sprite in this guide I did at 1100% zoom [link] . It's not hard to do with practice.

Oldish comment, but just saying while I'm here.
You can use MSPaint, GIMP, Photoshop... many many programs. Just use the Pencil Tool at 1px size brush. Make sure Anti-Aliasing is off and you should be good to go. Don't forget to zoom in to get a better look!

Well, I use GIMP's pen tool to make my clean lineart, so there's that. For videos, you can get a free trial of Adobe Flash. I'm not very knowledgeable on that though.

You see the two squares that have black and white in them? Click the black square and you can change the colours. It should be on the Toolbar thing.

Just some critique (if ya don't mind) :
It seems the black outline kinda runs into itself a lot; you're making a line and it looks fine but then BOOM it's a big blotch of black. Does that make sense? Like on the nose, the cheeks, and on part of the tail. It happens to me a lot too. Some advice: when you're doing pixel art, try not to use a black outline. Outline an item in a darker shade of the color the item is like I did here: [link] Or how the animators of my little pony draw the ponies!! XD
I'm not saying you absolutely HAVE to take my advice, but it helped me a lot and maybe it could help you too

just some critque~
you shoukd maybe use a smaller brush for the lineart. What program are you using??? sai is really good for pixels, the lines are very smooth and crisp.
You should also colour the lineart. It makes a HUGE impact on how the drawing looks :''D
you should also focus more on the shading. Make it darker, and add more tones. But apart from this its a lovely pixel!! keep up the good work u w u

I used the "pencil" brush on Photoshop, I don't have Sai. But I can adjust the line size so yeah XD
