Description Even though the radio collar suggests different, this cheetah is completely wild. She was habituated to people after an injury, fitted with a radio collar and tracked on foot every day before she let people get as close to her as they can do now. On this occasion, we tracked her through the bush and she made us run after her like we were chasing her- in reality, though, it was her chasing a steenbok, we just happened to be there at the right time. We didn't get to see the actual kill, but we arrived just after she had killed the steenbok. She was sitting in the shade, still panting heavily, and hadn't even started eating yet. We must've been sitting with her for about an hour, watching her devour that steenbok.

Edit: *dsoden suggested to me to crop this differently, so I tried to get the watcher a little more involved and drawn into the picture.

Terrifying and beautiful- for me that's what makes a big cat It's so easy to just see the plushy cuddly side of a cat in the zoo, but many people forget how very dangerous they can be!

Unfortunately I didn't see the hunt, we arrived just after she had killed it but that was cool enough!

If I'd ever see I'd be so awestruck, I'd probably drop my camera and watch with my mouth wide open Another group actually saw her killing a steenbuck; I was so angry I couldn't be there, but there were too many people already

well at least you saw one! i really want to see a cheetah.

all those people would probably distract her anyway, you're really smart to do that.

you should meet her in person, she's the friendliest wild cheetah I've met!

The cheetahs I've met were either the hiss-growl-spit kind of kitty or curious-purrpurr kitties. x)

The tame ones were the only ones to purr, however. Shame, it's such a nice sound! This cat must be rather habituated to humans

I love both types :3 Rebecca is both, really...especially hissy, growly and spitty when she's defending a kill! Never heard her purr, though!
She is very well habituated indeed- that well that the guy who did all the work with her could reach up to a meter to hear to tap down the grass so we could take better photos- while she was eating a steenbok
Afaik, the most intimate interaction between her and humans was to chuck a hat in front of her, she would get up and sniff it...

Ich kann mich grad nicht gut ausdrΓΌcken, hoffe es ist trotzdem verstΓ€ndlich
