(Tombow Fudenosuke Brush pen, Tombow ABT Brush)

My son complained recently that I create mainly monochrome pictures and he would like pieces with more color in it more.

So here it is, something in contrast, a joyful funny bright bird.

I've used a black ink brush pen for the outlines and then colored it with waterbased markers.

Waterbased markers are not as easy to blend as alcohol markers.

They blend best when the ink is still wet, so I worked mainly with both hands, the marker in one and a waterbrush in the other.

My paper choice was not the best, it's again my Winsor&Newton Heavy Weight 170gsm sketchbook.

And as previously said it's not the best choice for wet techniques, also here on some places the paper already started to desintegrate.

Only few sheets left on this sketchbook (use it already since 4 years) and I'm happy when it's used up.

The paper is very smooth and bright(I think it's the smoothest paper i own), sometimes an advantage with e.g. pencils, but I think I will not buy this again.

Already bought a new Sketchbook, actually 2, but not yet started they arrived yesterday.

Both A4, a Canson XL Mixed media with 160gsm and a Canson XL Mixed Media with 300gsm.

The 160gsm is quite smooth, but by far not so smooth as the Winsor&Newton, the 300gsm has a quite rough but regular pattern and looks like Watercolor paper.

We will see how I will like them.

What is your experience with sketchbooks?

Which do you like (for which techniques) which don't you like?

For me it's always quite difficult to select a new one, reviews e.g. on Amazon are most of the time crappy or obviously paid.
