Description Deep within the ancient grottoes and darkened caverns of Tarn's underworld lurks something sinister. From its gelatinous body vicious flames lick towards whatever they can reach, blindly screaming in an inferno of pure heat. Six-foot tentacles wait to ensnare whatever they touch and burn them to oblivion. It is the Flame Medusa, a monster from the pits of hell. Softly and silently it lurks through the Netherworld, aimlessly drifting through the murky air. Its fire burns hotter than a thousand suns and will ignite whatever the monster touches, whether the material can burn or not. Iron dissolves into liquid upon contact with this beast. Stone melts into a deadly slurry. Many an adventurer has lost their life to this unforgiving beast.

Poetic descriptions aside, the Flame Medusa is essentially a flaming, flying jellyfish, ranging in size from just a few inches long to the size of a man, which lives in the Netherworld of Tarn. It gets around by drifting slowly and can't control its direction. Its fire is insanely hot and the jellyfish will ignite anything it touches, even things which do not burn. For this reason, even the fire-resistant Salamanders and Magma Trolls avoid them. Armor is useless against Flame Medusae and the only effective weapons against them are enchanted arrows.

I think this is one of my favourite Tarnian creatures. Even so, the flames were a pain to do.

Drawn with a 0.7 mm mechanical pencil, coloured and shaded in GIMP.

EDIT: I updated the flames. They look less like they were done with sidewalk chalk, now.

Oh wow this is splendid. I love the overall design, and the unforgiving nature of the animal, making it terrifying for that aspect. You say it's hard, but gosh the reward's great. Awesome job.

Thank you very much! I need to fix the flames, though. They look odd.
