I didn't make the doll itself or his clothes, I bought them. I sculpted the mouse ears out of super sculpey and I cut and dyed the wig. Check out my scraps if you like, there's progress pictures in there of a doll I did make from scratch^^.

No more or less than to any hobby I guess. They can be just pretty things to look at, photography models, anatomy guides for drawing, sewing models, craft projects (painting, modifying etc.), it's fun to customize them into exactly the specific character you have in mind, whether that's an OC or an existing character, and for many people it's fun to have a tangible, 3D representation of a character they love very much.

Hm. I suppose that makes a lot of sense...I kinda want one...Grell is my absolute fave Kuro chara and I have a few OC's that I love to bits and pieced

If you really want a BJD, all I can tell you is leanr as much as you can about them and search around extensively, there are so many brands, types, styles and sizes. I'd recommend joining www.denofangels.com/forums , it's the biggest BJD resource out there. You'll need to have a member send you an invite though, I can do that for you if you want.

Like I said, there's a massive load of brands out there so it's hard to pick out just a few for you (in the end it'll be your personal taste and your wallet that'll determine which one you'll buy). I'll give you the links of stores I have personally dealt with, though I can't tell you much about how they are for buying a whole doll there, I mostly buy my dolls secondhand (look around on Ebay if you want an idea of what's out there).

www.dollfairyland.com is where my Ronnymouse is from, their dolls are really well-made and craftily engineered, well beyond the classic parts-on-string system. Their small-sized dolls, having faceplates rather than full heads for easy swapping of expressions, are addictive though, it's so easy to just get an extra faceplate, which will then inevitably need its own body My Grell doll is also from Fairyland.

www.eluts.com is another good one, also not the cheapest brand out there (if you're looking for cheap look for chinese companies like Resinsoul, Bobobie, Angelsdoll, Angel of Dream, Popodoll etc) but I love their dolls, my fullsize Ronald is from there (his head at least) as well as some of my non-Kuro dolls. They also have lovely wigs and clothes^^.

As for eyes, it really depends on whether you're looking for glass (around $20), urethane(around $50), acrylic($5-$20) or even silicone eyes (around $25), Ronnymouse's eyes are from www.ersaflora.com , they carry really beautiful acrylic eyes fro $15 a pair and they also carry special anime eyes, including Sebastian's demon eyes and Ciel's contract eye

And www.ndoll.net carries lots of high-quality wigs, clothes and shoes.

I'd recommend looking around on Ebay and such though, things like eyes and wigs are usually quite a bit cheaper there.

Wow Puffz...I am really honored that you took the time to type up a post like this for me! I really, really appreciate your time and help! It will probably be a long, loooong while before I ever get a finished doll, but thank you at least for starting me on the right path for it.
