You just can't help smelling that new plane smell, when a new plane is made. The Conwing L16, built by "Conwing & Son" in 1935. This plane was to rival and hopeful beat the PBY Catalina, built that same year by "Consolidated Aircraft" The Conwing L16 first test flight was a success, but now came the real test. Putting the plane through a serious of test before presenting the plane before the U.S NAVY.
The Planes crew, Captain Jim Possible and his co-pilot Robert Stoppable (Kim possible) took the plane for it's first serious test. The plane was going to be tested on speed over the desert of Nevada, a straight forward test one of many. The plane would have a third crew member a engineer called Wildcat. Wildcat spent many hours on the plane making a seres of drawings come to life.

March the 1st was a perfect day for flying, the skies where cleared and there was little wind conditions couldn't be perfect. The design team and the engineers where also present including Richard Cunningham the planes creator. Now when, doing a test flight, a number things can go wrong. It was common practice but not all at once which happened. The Plane took off early in the morning with no problems, after climbing to a good height. Captain Possible started the test, only to get into trouble. The engines on the Conwing stopped working and the plane started to lose height, Possible and Stoppable tried to start the engines agains but they would start. Wildcat who was on board realising the danger they where in, quickly acted and managed to override the engine cutoff starting the left engine, which Captain Possible managed to pull the plane up in the last second. The plane by this time was damaged as the crew tried to bring the plane back in all, hydraulic pressure dropped. But Captain Possible had already lined the plane up for a landing. Wildcat once again stepped in and had, to bring the landing gears down by hand (Like a B17) The back gears lower down except of the front, as the plane made a landing the plane hit the ground. The plane was damaged badly, Robert Stoppable was injured badly and was knocked out. Captain Possible broke both of his arms trying to control the plane, as for Wildcat he was knocked out after hitting is head. As for the plane it survived.
The people on the ground where shocked and rushed to the scene, once the plane was recovered it was taken to a hanger for inspection and doing the inspection, they found the plane was poorly built and had being rushed to try and meet a date it could not reach.
Which gave the PBY Catalina the advantage and on 28 March 1935 the first PBY flew, as for the Conwing the plane wouldn't fly again until December 1935, once repaired by this time it was too late. "Conwing & Son" went bust over night. "Conwing & Son" only built three working Conwing L16 the damaged / repaired version was brought by it's creator Richard Cunningham. The Conwing where given to the Navy for coastal duties their fates are unknown...
