During his imprisonment in the Netherrealm, Shinnok created the Lament Configuration and had it sent to Earthrealm. He used it as a tool to send people to him that he could use dark magic to forcibly convert into Cenobites; powerful demons that are loyal to the fallen Elder God and enjoy torturing others. The leader and most powerful member of the Cenobites is Pinhead.
