Description Did this one for a Roller Derby team called the Lunatics.

Inking it up next. Never drawn a straight jacket before (well at least not a traditional one, I think I've done a more fetish like one once or twice...which I really don't think would actually hold up to someone twisting and pulling like an old school canvas one...but what do I know, I just draw this stuff)

edit : now with a color version

So this is digital colors over a grayscale tone painting?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

punchyninja In reply to Pachycrocuta [2011-11-28 21:49:51 +0000 UTC]

yep. Done in painter, colorize layer ontop of the copic marker scan. I eventually flattened the piece and used blenders to remove some of the marker texture.

Very, very cool. And, yes, someone could roller skate like that. It would be a lot more difficult if her arms were secured behind her, but even that would be possible. What would make it especially difficult would be if her ankles were secured together. Of course, if somebody gave her a push...

punchyninja In reply to PirateStann [2011-11-27 05:53:08 +0000 UTC]

Well I could imagine that some one could skate like that, I just don't think they could stand up from that pose

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PirateStann In reply to punchyninja [2011-11-27 22:53:04 +0000 UTC]

They could, but it would take a burst of Jackie Chan like athleticism. I've seen gals with arms and legs tied wriggle from the floor to their knees, then pop up to a full standing position, all without leaning on anything. If someone could do that, they could get to their feet (even roller skated) while wearing a straitjacket.

Not sayin' it'd be easy, mind you!

your work is always amazing great inking skills ,to me that is the hardest part of doing any drawings.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

punchyninja In reply to saragoth [2011-11-27 05:52:11 +0000 UTC]

I really suck at the inking, but I keep swinging at it. The latest tip I got, the bottoms of the inks should be the thickest part even if its inked with a relative dead line (as in, the light direction isn't being show in the inks). just gives the drawing more weight.

awesome thanks for the tips and please keep posting tutorials and the step by step work it really opens up on the how's of making a drawing.

As a roller derby girl
I really appreciate all the accurate details
that went into the skates, knee pads and jammer panty,
they're extremely true to life.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

punchyninja In reply to CitricRainbow [2011-11-27 01:30:27 +0000 UTC]

thanks!! it took me a second to figure out what a jammer panty was....I kept thinking...do they wear special panties? what would make them different? hehehe. I noticed a lot of the players seem to have a lot of tape on the skates. not sure if its because they are falling apart, or if its to keep the laces from flying around or what.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CitricRainbow In reply to punchyninja [2011-11-27 05:19:17 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha don't worry
I was confused the first time
I heard someone say panty too
The duct tape is because
after enough sliding around on your toe-stops
to stop or walk or run
you feet pressing into the skates
it causes the seams to start to wear and tear
some people buy toe guards which is a flap you add to the front
but sometimes its easier to just fix it with ducktape.

Now I would definitely watch that kind of roller derby (especially as a double-feature with the pony-girl races).

Can't wait to see the finished product! Seriously, I can't wait. Is it done, yet?

...how 'bout now?

P.S.: That upper-arm strap thingie is important, and shouldn't be neglected. Makes it much less likely she'll wiggle free with a horizontal strap through there. Even better, thread the ends of the sleeve straps through the waist thingies, then through the upper-arm thingies, then buckle in front. That requires a really enthusiastic self-hug on her part, of course.
