Description

How could he do this? Just sit there and yell at her the way he did! He didn’t know anything! He’s done nothing but sit on his rump and blab about how ‘unsafe’ Wavey was being. How careless she was.

These thoughts raced in the little mind of Wave Rider, who was mindlessly staring out into the horizon, where the sky meets the sea. Her favorite thinking spot, atop a tall sand dune by the shore of the beach, was also the place she escaped to when she got into an argument with her father. Her safe place. The little pegasus’ wings ruffled in aggravation as she tried to justify her own actions in her head, trying to prove her father, Bruce, wrong.

It was only one typhoon. She thought, She’d done it like...3 times already. And each time she’s come out with only a few scratches. He didn’t know what he was talking about.

“I see you argued with your father again.” A voice broke her thoughts. Wavey closed her eyes and sighed, already knowing exactly who it was.

“What made you think that?” She replied sarcastically, digging her muzzle into her hooves, trying to hide her face from the pony.

“Well, you’re out here,’’ The voice began. She could feel a shift in the sand as the other pegasus walked up next to her, slowly settling down next to her. A wing draped over her, almost completely swallowing her up. “And he’s in there scrubbing the windows.”

Finally, Wave looked up to see her other father, Aerostorm. She sighed, shifting further away from his warmth, but remaining under his wingspan. “I don’t...wanna talk about it.” She huffed.

“I know you don’t.” Aero simply stated. She hated how well he could see right through her, as if she was completely invisible. It pissed her off.

There were a few, but long, minutes that passed before she could stand it no longer. Wave began to spill everything that had happened to Stormy, not leaving out a single detail.

“I wanted to go Typhoon Surfing with Trout but shark-dad said I couldn’t!” She began, “But you let me go all the time, so I just went and did it anyway! When I got back, he was all pissed off like I had just eaten his last bit of cake! So naturally, I had to stand up for myself Dad! I couldn’t just let him yell at me about how stupid I was to go and do that! And how apparently now I’m grounded from Typhoon Surfing ever again, which is complete and utter bull-” She was cut off by a sudden hoof being placed over her mouth, allowing her to finally take a breath.

“I know you’re growing up, but just going off like that and not telling him? I’m sorry baby, but that really was stupid.” Stormy spoke clearly and sternly, removing his hoof from his daughter’s mouth. “He was only yelling at you because he was scared.”

Wave Rider rolled her eyes, shifting further away from her father. “Of course you would take his side…” She mumbled, blinking back the burning tears.

“I’m not taking sides.” He said, using his wing to pull her back to his side. “It’s not that he doesn’t trust you Wavey. It’s that you worry him. He’s scared. He’s scared that you’ll do something to hurt yourself.” His voice was sincere, almost as if he was speaking from experience.

“Well he shouldn't be! I’ve always come out of surfing without a scratch! You know it! So why can’t he?” She objected with an angered shout, scrunching her muzzle and staring at her father with flaming eyes.

However, behind those flames, Stormy can see the pain and the confusion. He sighed, pressing his cheek against hers to calm her down. “Because he knows the possibilities of what might happen.” He tried to explain, knowing it wouldn’t exactly translate through to a filly like her.

“Well that’s just stupid.” She grumped, giving in with a sigh. “But I love doing it...I’m not going to stop just because he’s scared I might break a bone or something.”

"I know you won't." He sighed, nuzzling some fallen mane out of her face. "But just make sure you're careful okay? For his sake."

She gave him one last glance before resting her eyes once again on the horizon line. "Alright...alright...I'll talk to him."

"Good girl." Aerostorm chuckled, standing to his hooves before folding his wing back into place. "Now come on, it's getting cold. I'll make some hot chocolate." He gave her his usual and charming lopsided smile.

I know it's bad okay?! It was extremely rushed, and the story is shit...but I just wanted to make some fanart for Lopoddity bc I love her.   You should go check out her stuff. Even if you're not a MLP fan, her stories and characters are worth the look around. I'm sure she could make this thing like, 40,000x better than I ever can, but at least I tried right? RIGHT?!

Also, mom-bun!Stormy is my new aesthetic.

Awww, I love this! Total treat to read, Stormy seems so wise and fatherly here, it really makes me wanna draw him interacting more with Wave. Love the details about her having her own thinking place, and being hurt when she thinks Stormy's taking Bruce's side. Love this, thank you!

I thought this was a really cute story with some fatherly advice; you did a good job on writing out the worry that parents face with their kids.

No prob. It's a parent's job to worry about their kids, right? My mom always told me if I didn't love you, I wouldn't care.

She always says, "If I didn't love you, I'd have let you end up in jail a long time ago." That's some good advice right there.
