I dont know if this would be helpful to you, but with my friend and I's fursuit heads, we brushed out bunches of wool/yarn (you have to make quite a few){kind of like the way people make yarn tails}
Anyway we found sewing/stabbing a tone of those where you want the hair makes it look quite nice, it's less chunky and more like actual hair would flow, really depends on the look you want ^^

Make sure you get nice wool/yarn, some of them brush out weird. You can tell by fraying the end of the strand a bit, if it looks nice and soft, but not waxy it's good~ If it's waxy looking throw it back XD
