Treehugger, being one of Fluttershy's best friends, was one of many who had a hand in raising her adopted child, Tuff Love. Although she's childless, she's maternal by nature, and loved Tuff as soon as she met her, declaring herself Tuff's "Auntie Hugs". Tuff was initially shy of her, like everybody else, but tolerated her affection politely.
As time went on though, she really did come to warm up to Treehugger. Tuff struggles with feelings of worthlessness and a lack of purpose, and sometimes it builds up and explodes as panic attacks or breakdowns- and, she discovered, Treehugger was surprisingly good at helping her through them. Treehugger believes that all living creatures have inherent worth, because it's a miracle that they've been given the great blessing of being born, and that the universe has a plan. It's hippy-dippy (and usually incomprehensible) advice, but it's uplifting, and comforting to hear when Tuff feels lost, even if she doesn't really admit it.
She does try to do that "hoooohghmm... wrreEIIGGHHH" thing sometimes though which Tuff is NOT INTO
Other than being comforting, Tuff likes being around her aunt because she's not expected to talk often- she's content to just talk to Tuff without receiving any responses (If she even notices, she's kind of an airhead). She also finds her spaced-out way of talking easy to listen to, not really overstimulating

Also Treehugger is a trans woman bc I Say So
