Actual serious reply, I posted this comment when I was 13 and now that I'm 18 and rewatched the whole series, I can say that the reason I hated Asuka was because I saw a lot of my own negative traits in her and I hated it. So now she's one of my favorite characters

Ohh ... well, I suppose that is what makes Evangelion so particular that many viewers over the years have been able to identify themselves with the occasional character of Evangelion (in terms of personality, way of seeing the world or in terms of the life history of the individual).
On the other hand, I found it quite difficult to hate Asuka the first times I saw her, and I was even more complicated to hate her after knowing all the misfortunes she has suffered throughout her childhood only in the original series, and her experiences in Rebuild of Evangelion have not been much more hopeful or optimistic.

Yeah, watching Evangelion for the first time I missed a lot of important personality traits on some of the characters, mostly Misato and Asuka
I think the issue with Asuka's character in terms of fandom is that a lot of people write her off as a stereotypical tsundere and pretty much ignore that her behavior is basically a cry for help because of her inner struggles
Asuka is a very well-written character and should be appreciated more, and I really wish they'd had given her a break on the newer movies...

Well, I don't think it's a bad idea to see that mythical anime again.
Regarding the character of Asuka and the stereotype of Tsunderism, it was Asuka who reinvented Tsunderism as such and gave an arc of character development to that kind of person and those characteristics are what define the great majority of Tsuderes who lived after from Asuka.
You are absolutely right, she is a very well-conceived and written character besides that she is perhaps one of the most realistic characters of Anime and Manga and the girl with more personality that has come out of that anime (although Misato does not stay behind ).
