Description Although this could also be considered jewelry, I think it qualifies as metalwork. I worked several hours forming and shaping this sterling silver brooch to get the domed shape before etching in the Celtic knotwork and lion design. The pattern was hand drawn, adapted from the "Book of Kells". The pin portion was also hand formed and has a deep purple amethyst set in the head.

Made for my then-boyfriend, now-husband. He wears it with his kilt, usually to the Renaissance Festivals. Inscription on the backside. Metal thickness is around 1/16 inches thick, so the piece has some good heft to it!

It's a lovely brooch. I admit, I'd love it as a hair ornament for ridiculously long hair.

if I curved it a little and made it out of thinner metal, it would look stunning in hair!

Heavy as it is, I'd totally wear it as-is, with my giant curly mane.

lol. I had a friend in college with similar hair. I made her a leather clip with a copper stick to tie her hair back. The plastic ones always broke, but this one has endured! Saddle leather and 1/4 thick solid copper did the trick! Works in finer hair too, come to think of it.....

Aha! Brilliance! Us curly haired girls need powerful hair ornaments.
