If this doesn't define "first world problems" I don't know what does.
We have in the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U roster:
Mario / Luigi / Peach / Bowser / Yoshi / Rosalina & Luma / Bowser Jr. / Wario / Donkey Kong / Diddy Kong / Mr. Game & Watch / Little Mac / Link / Zelda / Sheik / Ganondorf / Toon Link / Samus / Zero Suit Samus / Pit / Palutena / Marth / Ike / Robin / Duck Hunt / Kirby / King Dedede / Meta Knight / Fox / Falco / Pikachu / Charizard / Lucario / Jigglypuff / Greninja / R.O.B. / Ness / Captain Falcon / Villager / Olimar / Wii Fit Trainer / Shulk / Dr. Mario / Dark Pit / Lucina / PAC-MAN / Mega Man / Sonic / Mewtwo / Lucas / Roy / Ryu / Cloud / Mii (holds up to 30 Mii Fighters) AND still to be added are Corrin and Bayonetta [and more veteran returns in the future?]
Ice Climbers are missing from the roster because of Nintendo 3DS restrictions

Me too! I do miss the Ice Climbers since they were my secondary mains in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but I got over it after seeing how much Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U improved almost everything else from its predecessors. The only things that don't appeal to me are the new Classic Mode and Smash Tour. Still, I would've liked to have seen Solid Snake return as well.

I hope you're right. I'm dying to play an 8-Player Smash that's only Ice Climbers and Smash Ball/Assist Trophy/Poké Ball/Master Ball items turned on high. A true 16-Player Mayhem!

They could have made them work... Popo could have just entered and have Nana as an alternate costume. Same with Wolf and Lucas. Fox and Ness's custom moves are the exact same as Lucas and Wolf's. They could have just worked as skins. But no, that wasn't enough for Nintendo apparently.

Actually, they could return as DLC in this way: only one of them enters, while the other one will be an alternate custom, just like with Robin and Bowser Jr. Yet again, I wonder if Sakurai will ever consider that option....

it's been confirmed that they were intended to be in the game, however they had issues with programming their AI and were forced to scrap them, don't feel completely upset

Another possibility is that a lot of people wanted Banjo and Kazooie in Smash but they couldn't. so they just did the closest thing possible, but you also could be right.

Well, I mean, there was a good reason.
They got them working in the Wii U version, but couldn't in the 3DS, and they wanted both games to be as close to each other as they could.
Plus, Ice Climbers haven't had a new game for years, and haven't got another one coming out anytime soon.
The newcomers, with the exception to Duck Hunt, all have recent games, or upcoming games.

If you think about it, Ice Climbers are two complete characters, but Rosalina and Luma and the Duck Hunt Duo are seperate, but mini characters, so they can probably handle that.
There was a new Dr Mario though. It wasn't called Dr Mario, but Dr Luigi and it was released on the eShop last year as part of year of Luigi. It was extremely popular, so Dr Mario got added back in, plus, Dr Mario has Melee Mario's down+B attack, which some people (including myself) prefer over the FLUDD.
Also, Duck Hunt appeared in a compilation thing on the Wii to show off the Wii's pointer capabilities. But i would argue that Duck Hunt is way more important to Nintendo's history than Ice Climbers. I had never heard of them before Smash tbh.
I don't think the game needs them anyway and i have been enjoying it so much. I don't think i would change anything really. The game is fantastic!

They actually should've reconsider it.
I know, but I don't count that as a new Dr. Mario game. It's about Luigi though. Ya know, this is usually about game releases, if those games didn't came to be, then I think they didn't put the characters in it either. You know what I mean? If Dr. Luigi didn't appear than Dr Mario would never appear in Smash 4. It's all about popularity, which I think they shouldn't do it that way.
I do admit that I've never heard of the Ice Climber before Melee, but that doesn't change the fact that they are a part of Nintendo's history.
Well, I do! Even though they kinda messed out badly with this game, I do enjoy it actually. And I thought they ruined it in Brawl...I guess I wasn't mistaken. Yet they made even worse. By with I mean character input.

I told you, there's no problem in being popular. The problem is that everything is based on popularity. They should balanced it, but they didn't!
DR. MARIO IS NOT THEY ONLY MASSIVE NES GAME AROUND, YA KNOW??!!
Oh well, I'm done talking, we'll just have to have fun and enjoy the new Sm4sh.
The Smash bros. series are the only games I follow nowadays along with Pokémon core games. (Not those spin-off or side games)
It's not such a big deal anyway, Nintendo has ruined the games already since 2006.
The only good games in my opinion since 2006 were:
- New Super Mario Bros. 2006 (It was the first ones, it'll do.)
- Super Paper Mario 2007 (This could've been better, but still)
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl 2008
- Wario Land: Shake It! 2008 (Great Game)
- Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story 2009 (Great for one-timers, after beating the game you can't anything more just like it's predecessors.)
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii 2009 (An acceptable remake of the DS version and multiplayer gameplay. Great game for 4.)
- Donkey Kong Country Returns 2010 (Title says all, an awesome return of Donkey Kong Country, very challenging game, hard to beat, but it was fun!)
That's about it. There are no epic games released after 2010, not even a single one I can pick out of them.
The era of Nintendo games is in my opinion over. They're only busy make ridiculous remakes and exploiting. If you gonna make a remake, at least don't ruined it, but they still did it! I can tell. I grew up with Nintendo. I am 25 years old, so I can tell how the game were back in the 90s. Those were masterpieces!!

Seeing this just dissapoints me every time. I think what sucks most about this is that if Smash Bros is gonna have handheld ports from now on, I don't think Ice Climbers are ever gonna see the light of day now unless there's a handheld system released in the future powerful enough to handle them.
They will be missed, but now we have to move one and settle for things like *sigh* Dark Pit - _-.

Well, there's already a more powerful 3ds on the way! They just had to make it for the current one as it's got an extremely large install base.
Dark Pit is pretty cool. His attacks are slightly varied when it comes to pit.
I've been playing the game nonstop, and I have no complaints.
