It's really neat how the skeleton remains laid out like this. It looks like it's in running motion.

Yeah usually when I find remains they are scattered, but this one was still as it lay down to die and a female deer close by that was the same too, sadly it looks like all the predators/scavengers in this area have been killed by gamekeepers
Sadly so much of the countryside is taken over by bloodsports over here, gamekeepers will kill anything that might think about eating a pheasant or grouse, all so some people can pay a lot of money to shoot birds for fun

i completely understand. they just barely took the wolf off the protected list and almost immediately a wolf hunt pops up with sponcers and prizes and everything, supported by a congressman who was calls himself a wildlife advocate...OF DEATH!

only men can define killing something as "fun"

I found one of these when I was little and I thought it was a person and freaked out.

Such a great shot, it's almost like a horror movie, but I love the title too. it calms things down.

I once found a deer skeleton on the side of the road (yeah, sad right?) goodness, it was there all winter until one day it just disappeared. I'm guessing something dragged it away (because I doubt anyone would take it...)
so sad, but beautiful at the same time

While sad in the passing of the deer, you captured the remains so well Its wild how the bones stayed in place and werent carried off by other woodland creatures!

That is really a stunning find, Somewhat saddening, and curious that no scavengers did take it away...

the picture and the title remind me of Princess Mononoke to some degree..
I bet alive he was gorgeous.

Sadly it seems that the predetors/scavengers have likely been killed off in this area just incase they think about eating a pheasant or grouse

I only find skulls, but never full skeletons.
Found a fantastic, intact deer skull with pretty intact antlers, two rabbit skulls, a (baby) deer skull, an owl skull, etc...
Never found a canine or feline skull though...

Usually when I find remains they are scattered so it was a strange place with two deer in this state here and another one not long dead
I've got quite a collection of skulls now ~ Red, Roe & Fallow Deer, Various Sheep and a Ram skull, quite a few Fox skulls, Badger, Otter, Ferret, Stoat, Weasle, Cat, Pheasant, Partridge, Oyster Catcher, Owl, a few Buzzard skulls, Kestrel, Sparrow Hawk, Gull, Blackbird, Rat, Rabbit, Hare and a few other random skulls, all that I've found while out walking and stuff

I'd be kinda scared if i come upon an.. animal resting place.... o.O i watch too many horror movies.. i'd probably have nightmares of animals coming back from the dead.. freakin Pet Cemetery!

It's shocking how bleached it looks, they really don't leave anything behind, do they?
It's really interesting how it's still kept together, but poor deer

I wish I could have seen this first hand..
A deer grave-yard sounds an amazing and mystic find almost.

If yo collect the skeleton and re-assemble it you can sell i for a hefty price.
Plenty of university's like to buy them as well as anatomy teachers.

I would be tempted to keep the skull......

I did take the skull, I've already got lots of Roe Deer skulls, but all the Buck skulls I've already got have antlers, this is the first one I've found with shed antlers when he died

Wow, I'm really surprised to see his skeleton still in tact like that. I would think other animals would have gotten to him.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Purplejackdaw In reply to onnawufei [2010-05-25 12:18:38 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, there was another deer near him like this too and a fresh dead buck with his antlers still in velvet, it was like a place that things go to die
I guess it shows that the gamekeepers have killed all the predators/scavengers in the area for the bones not to be scattered
