Honestly, I like it. The mane and tail aren't the best, but oh well. I think the lighting's alright, and I think the horse and background go pretty well together. I also like the border.

I think you did fine. If you smudged it, I'd suggest using the paint brush tool and using it for the strands. So it won't look like it's all one strand.

Thanks! I actually just zoomed in really close and added the fly-away hairs as needed... then I smudged the ends of the strands lightly, at about 5% strength.
