Honestly as a kid I had no idea, IΒ didn'tΒ constantly watch it but I had a basic understanding of it,Β until I read the manga. Then I was super surprise when the realization came in. For a while I was wondering if I was just really slow and didn't notice because thought they were best friends. Before I realize they change it so they didn't look likeΒ they were in a romantic relationship.

It's a shame but it was a time when homosexuality was a big bad thing. I think it's a bit better now but still showing it to kids is a no-no. I mean what if they suddenly turned gay?

I love the argument of TV 'turning kids gay'. It's delightfully ignorant, lol. Anyway, hilariously kids TV does get away with stealth gay jokes or extremely ambiguously gay characters. They just have to be very subtle about it. Pokemon has the most consistent examples of it, and they've been doing it for over 10 years.

I know it's ridiculous. I mean if I saw two girls making out on a TVΒ show I'm not going to suddenly think, 'oh I like girls now!' And Touya and Yukito didn't really do anything anyway, at least not in the manga. Looking back at old kid show I totally started to notice that as well. I think I was a little slow(or too innocent) as a child because I did not catch these things. In Harvest Moon 64 I never realize Cliff and Ann were a pair, they were always fighting in like every scene, until they invited me to their wedding. It should have been obvious since every scene they were together but it just did not connect.

I grew up watching the english dub. Then one day I watched the original... my first thoughts were "My entire childhood has been a lie!", Touya and Yuki were always my faorite characters, so I almost died of happiness since they actually had screen time. Together. Squee~

At least the dub is in English (which is the only language me and my friends speak - I hate listening to movies that are in other languages) - as long as there's cardcapturing action, I'm happy with it - I could care less about the romance.. :/

Aha yeah I accidentally got ahold of an episode of the dub once, and my brain like, died. XP Because all the stuff I'd loved about the original was like, GONE.
Also, I love that even though they don't actually show them TOGETHER, in the original Yuki admitted to Sakura that he was in love with her brother.

I don't think i saw that one actually. Though I'm fairly sure that if it was significant to the plot, they may have kept it. I mean, Sakura and Syaoran's relationship was significant to the plot and so were Toya and Yukito's but that's what they tried to change, since a simple best friend like relationship would make sense as well.

Hee! I agree with you. I first watched CCS ages ago when it was showing. Then, as I aged grew old wait I'm not old grrr progressed in life and got hooked on anime, I re-watched it and realized how much I've missed. TouyaYuki is the awesome-est ever... and they CUT out their scenes?! Coughcough. :<
One thing I hate about anime + English dubs? Cutting of best scenes in the entire anime + out of character voices. I mean, in the English dub, kawaii little Sakura sounds like a real kaijuu. Umm, no thanks? :>

I never did watch the dub. Sakura spoke three words, and I turned it off. Drove me loony.
I LOVED this pairing. Do they actually get together in the end of the subbed version? I can't even remember. o.o

They technically only imply it, but it's widely accepted that they do get together in the end.

Also, Wikipedia, while it never says "Touya and Yuki" get together, it mentions that the theme of the show is love, "... including friendship love, sibling love, lesbian love, and gay love." That COULD be Syaoran's thing for Yuki in the beginning... But we know what it's really about.

Of course we can't have the evil gays tainting the minds of our poor American youth. That's why Zoicite was a woman in Sailor Moon (he's actually a man, if you look it up!).
Guh you have no idea how ecstatic I was when I watched the untainted version of this for the first time and found out that they actually end up a couple in the end. One of my absolute favourite CLAMP pairings.
