PurpureaPhotography In reply to ??? [2017-09-22 09:05:43 +0000 UTC]
I know people want to read into this image with sexual intentions or thoughts but... That is not what I intended. It's a doll that has fallen and scrapped her knees but finds beauty in the broken and scarred.

I know all too well what it is to be a broken and scarred thing.
I didn't want to read into the image.
Sometimes I just see ... what isn't really there.
Being damaged isn't beautiful.
But the photo certainly is.
Thank you again.

Has a much more accurate color than most fake blood. Had to go high res. to be sure. Impressive.
Something that jumped out at me was the lack of any sharp lines or dots behinds the drops, so it looked more like someone had one kneeled in blood rather than bleeding. Wasn't clear that was the desired effect, but figured I'd mention it.

Thanks! I made the mixture myself and some edit to it after.Β
It was so long ago that I took this image so I am not entirely sure what came to my mind when I took this image but I think I just smeared some dirt in the "blood". Syrup is what it is and I find it a bit hard to get it exactly like real blood unfortunately.

NOBODY gets fake blood *just* right. Coagulation is fast, but uneven. Blood has white and red components floating in yellow plasma. It's complex optically.
In this shot, though, the lack of a wound was what stood out. That is a major feat; This looks a lot better than most pro work I've seen. (Alien looked like real blood because it was. You figure that counts as cheating?)
Happy 4th to you and yours.

That's true.
I actually did a shoot with pig blood once:Β

But I prefer fake since it doesn't smell as bad and I rather have that on me. xD However, my model thought different.
Nah, don't think it's cheating. Why make it harder than it has to be?Β

Well, it certainly is hard to disagree with you on any point. I figure the skills in make up are the only ones that using the real thing could *possibly* be argued as cheating, really. The characterization is simply humorous.
I find realism affects me more than caricature, so that is a more intense image than most attempts. I don't think beauty was your object, there, but by all means, I am curious to know for certain.Β
As an aside: I am now pondering which fluid washes off easier after a shoot. I can see a case to be made for either being less irritating to clean---Not something I expected to be thinking about, so this conversation has already spiced up my week. In honor of the friendly conversation and diverting oddity, I have honored you in the traditional Deviant Art manner: Enjoy your llama in good health. Alas, I have but one virtual llama to give.

Hello! I'm planning on using this photo for a project and I'm trying to recreate this look on my "model", another student, How did you create this look? Would you mind letting me use this photo for a project? I would give you full credit. Please let me know as soon as you can because this project is due next week. Β

that's what my knees looked like after i crashed my bike down a rocky hill while camping. I'll never forget the look on the elderly couple who happened to be walking when i landed in front of them. I didn't want them to worry so i quickly got to my feet and went "I'm alright!"
The old man just stared at me. "honey...no your not." they walked me back to my campsite

this is so difficult for me to look at because I am afraid of horrible things happening to knees but at the same time it is very compelling and kind of beautiful

MitreSquareMurder In reply to madamscience [2011-04-13 10:32:45 +0000 UTC]
I know what you mean.
Knees can be extremely fragile and, for some reason, there's something more disturbing about contemplating a knee injury than, say, an upper arm injury or a rib injury. I'm not sure why that is.
Maybe because our kneecaps just kind of stick out there in front like they're floating and seem really vulnerable and badly-attached? I'm not sure, but I *do* know what you mean - hard to contemplate, but strangely beautiful and compelling.
I think part of the compel factor might have to do with the fact that you can't see what she's wearing above her legs, or indeed if she's wearing anything. It lends an element of anonymity to it and draws the eye to the shoes, leaving more questions.
The fact that you can't see any clothing makes me think of Lizzie Borden, a 19th century teenager who may have taken her clothes off before murdering her father and stepmother with an axe, leading to a lack of evidence to her guilt that, to this day, leaves the truth about who killed them unknown.
...But maybe that's just me
As I said before, excellent shot, Bloddroppe.

madamscience In reply to MitreSquareMurder [2011-04-13 22:59:16 +0000 UTC]
That's interesting about Lizzie Borden I'd never heard that before... I definitely can see the connection
You're right... it's something about how they are so loosely connected to the rest of the body, and are so integral to the function of the leg... i don't know. I know there are people who can dislocate their kneecaps and that freaks me out terribly. AHH!
I think part of why this photo is so successful is the way the legs are posed, with the knees going in, because that's such a pose of vulnerability in my mind. Like the knees are already damaged and bloodied in the photo but when a person is afraid they unconsciously turn their legs so their knees face inward as if to protect that fragile part of themselves.
