Description Not many people read Calvin anymore, it feels really wrong. I happen to think it it the funniest, deep, serious, creative, powerful, insanely overwhelming comic in the history of the world. I love it, and i love the characters. The concept is great and really leaves a message. May their memory and friendship live on in this cold world.

Calvin and Hobbes belong to Bill Watterson

agree wholeheartedly people don't read this as much as they used to. makes me really sad. I can't think of a comic strip that is as funny, poignant, thought provoking, and well created strip like calvin and hobbes. they're even named after philosophers! Undoubtedly my most favorite american comic period.

Yes, exactly. Calvin and Hobbes should be run in the paper, it could teach some people something. Most of the other comics are not as creative, or well thought out, and these two show inspiration,(courage!), and other things that people should get a taste of every week.
(Yay for studying history!)

grr it'd be nice if they did. Zits I have hope for. thats a good strip as well as foxtrot

Yes, I do favour those two better than most of the other ones. But foxtrot in the paper right now is not as good as the ones in books that i have of them

I think thats why Watterson stopped making calvin and hobbes. So that there wouldn't have to be "classic" calvin and hobbes vs a "new" calvin and hobbes thus resulting in a big difference of quality with the old stuff being better than the new stuff. You have to admit it makes sense

Yes, that defiantly makes sense. And i admire the sacrifice that Watterson made to do that. He could be super famous right now, but we don't need Calvin and Hobbes to continue to have hope. They just have to exist.

exactly. Another admirable thing that watterson did was to not give up rights to Calvin and Hobbes. thats why you don't see mugs and shirts and stuff of C&H

Yeah, it upsets me when I see bad portrayals of Calvin on merchandise. But whenever I see something like that that angers me, I always remember the time when Calvin cried because the baby raccoon died. He wasn't all that bad.

yeah it gets me to. I definitely remember the racoon. It was refreshing to see that despite calvin's rambunctious personality he had a good sense of morals. Another time to remember was when calvin accidentally broke his dad's binoculars and he got so guilty. It was surprising to see him do something bad and actually feel guilty about it

i think it's kind of funny that he tried to do things bad on purpose, but he gets upset if he wasn't intending to. Watterson is a genius.

yeah or if he gets blamed for something he didn't do. remember the clones? he was all pissed how he didn't actually get to do that stuff.
Watterson certainly knows his stuff. I swear if someone has just started reading comics they'd have to at least read a few strips of C&H

Heh, do i remember those guys. My favorite was his "good" side, and when he went to school, people told him that his good is nonexistent.
I happen to think that C&H is a good influence, even though Calvin does some bad things. Isn't that funny?

UlitmaSephiroth In reply to Purrgir [2012-01-06 22:56:28 +0000 UTC]

that was funny. XD
It is ironically. Its got a lot of very insightful observations about the world and the people in it and cleverly pulls off some good jokes based off those observations. I don't know how watterson managed to do it but he balanced the stupid humor with some wry humor very well
