Description A mask which I made for myself, to wear to this past year's Fairie Festival ([link] ), and probably many more events in the future.

MATERIALS:
The mask is cast resin, with additions (such as the ears) sculpted on with ClayShay. The horns are hollow cast resin (replica Asian ibex horns). The hair is synthetic weave hair, and the mask is painted with acrylic paints.

Also, since it's turned out to be a popular question, no, it's not at all heavy. Most people are very surprised to find how light this mask is, and I had no trouble dancing in it for hours.

This mask will not be duplicated!

Very nice mask, and your pose is great.

As I saw it, I thought- is that their real hair, it looks just like the Kannalelon brand I used to extend my braids with- then I read the artist's comments.

I'm curious about how you go about making a hollow resin cast? Are there any tutorials out there that you might recommend? I wouldn't want you to give out trade secrets after all!

Hi there! I haven't made a tutorial of my exact method, but it's not actually very unique to me. Here are a bunch of mold making and casting videos that might give you an idea of how it goes:

[link]
(I use a brush-on mold. To make the thin casting, I brush-on or slush-cast the resin into the mold in layers)
There are more tutorials at smooth-on.com, too!

One day I'll get around to making a tutorial-ish thing of my own... I promise I will...

wow, you do beautiful costumes. They look like a lot of hard work.
I was wondering about visibility. I see on this mask there seem to be eye holes in the corner of the eyes, Is that how you do it with your other masks? I notice alot of them have glass animal eyes which are very realistic, but hard to see through, well done.

Qarrezel In reply to Freakconformist [2008-06-06 12:19:54 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yes, any mask with eyes set into the mask has the eyeholes located in the "tearducts", rather than through the eye itself. The vision is pretty good, though it definitely cuts off peripheral vision.
