It's been a while since I've done any Illuminated Manuscript pages. So, for my independent project from my Interpretive Illustration class I decided to get back into it. what was your method for doing this? draw, color, ink? i'm wondering because i'm working on (trying to at least) something similar, but am terrible with color. :]

This story is going to be one of the most superbly illustrated I've seen in a long while! Beautiful. It should be published, just so legions of people can be inspired by what a beautifully illustrated book really is.

I am shamed in all ways by your skill. The textura quadrata is even, measured, and tight. The Majuscules are complementary and not too ostentatious. The scrollwork is regular, clear, and well integrated. The composition is very balanced and strong. Even your monoline lettering is pleasing to the eye. Well done.

I've done some very mild calligraphy compared to this, so I'm aware of just how hard this had to have been. (especially to keep stuff from smudging around). Lovely jewel like colors but not overwhelming because of the use of neutrals. I totally dig that "butterfly wing" above the dragons, and the dragons themselves of course. Too bad this isn't a larger version so the text was clear, and the guy didn't look like he had bunny ears.

I've always been fascinated by illuminated writings, but this one is very compelling to me because it takes me to a beautiful world far away without even reading the actual story yet! Good work.

Nice work! I really like the subdued tones to the colors and the way the dragon bodies morph into text frames. I am uncertain if the character in black has big ears, horns or if it is just part of the background. I can't wait to see the other pages!

Thanks! He's actually wearing a crown of dragon claws. Yeah, it's not very clear at this size - but it's much easier to see in the original.
