Description This is one of my favorite animal shots. I spent hours watching this spot on a ridge where I noticed one of the cheetahs would bask in the sun there (usually in the late afternoon). The photo was taken using a 600mm (equivalent) telephoto lens on a digital camera. I added the border and text to create a 20"x30" poster for my office.

Is that a real picture? Geez, I think I woulda died of fright!

It's really wonderfully clear.... I can't think of anything to say that would bring justice to it!

Thanks. It is a real picture. I was quite far away and used a long telephoto (the 35mm equivalent of a 640mm lens) to get the shot.

Thanks so much for all of your compliments and comments. On this shot I was about 100 meters/yards away. I used the equivalent of a 600mm lens to photograph the cheetah. By the way, I looked at your gallery and your architectural designs are awesome!

You have a very varied gallery, very unpretentious and extremly classy. From your opinion, what is a good professional Digi cam to invest in which has the ability of high optical zoom and something that can accomodate additional generic lens? The reason is that Ive mastered and done well with my existing point and shoot Sony but after having seen my sisters' Olympus c-40 (it think), -> [link] , I want to move forward

That is a really tough question. The type of camera that you buy will depend on several factors. The primary one is budget. Determine what you are willing to spend, then select the top brands and models from that price group. Good lenses are usually the most expensive part so make sure that you budget for that. There is a good review web site that will give you lots of information on each model for the price range that you select. Visit [link] -Top brands of digital SLRs with removable lenses include Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Fuji, Olympus, and Pentax.

Other factors that help narrow your choices would be types of photography that you are interested in and what lenses are available for that camera model that are necessary to achieve your type of photos. Size, weight, and ruggedness may also be a factor for you. Also, determine the print sizes that you wish to make from your images and that will help determine the Megapixels that you need although there is also good software available to help scale resolution up for large print sizes.

Good Luck,

Georgeous photo. I'd love to see it in a higher resolution. 333x500 just isn't enough to appreciate it. Great job.
