Description This is a VERY exciting shot for me...

I glanced out of the window to the back garden, having noticed a patch of something on the lawn...then realised it was the remains of a Collared Dove upon which a Sparrowhawk was feasting!!! ...

Its a bit noisy, cos the light wasnt best, but what the hell,i am so stoked to get it ...

I think the light levels and noise actually look good on this picture. Make it look gritty and vicious. Excellent capture! More good luck to you in the future.

Wow Martin!!! And it a great image for being "on the fly" so to speak! I had a hawk take out a dove in my backyard years ago but it was a "swipe and catch" and it was gone!

You are not going to believe this.. The same happened to me today. I went out and came back to a pile of pigeon feathers on the grass and the hawk still hanging around. I did my best to get some snaps but they were rubbish. Honestly, what a treat to see such a beautiful creature relatively close up (with the use of binoculars) and to see the back of a pigeon too actually, because altho I am generally pro life for all creatures, the pigeons round here are taking over. Seems nature is redressing the balance and I would rather see a sparrowhawk take them out than the gamekeeper having a pop.
Brilliant shot Martin, I feel so excited and know how you feel.

quaddie In reply to AlicesPlace [2011-03-21 20:14:52 +0000 UTC]

How wierd is that! ....seeing them close-up,doing what they do,is just so impressive..
I agree about the pigeons and doves too, they are no longer town visitors,we have them roosting in our garden ...

Now i want a shot of the Goshawk Dawn saw in the garden the previous week ...

This sparrowhawk has been back and had two more pigeons. I havent seen it again, just seen the evidence..
