Yeah... he's old and I never baked him because he was my first and I didn't set up his structure right. One day I'll make another werewolf!

how much is the clay stuff to make like a 2' sculpture

Quantum-Kid In reply to Punk-Zebra63 [2011-10-01 01:17:50 +0000 UTC]
I don't know how much the clay costs yet (I have yet to purchase my own). The amount of sculpey I used for the werewolf though would be about 2 bricks (sculpey comes in bricks about 1 1/2"x3"x6"). Hope that helps!

He should not crack apart. . . What have you been told that I don't know about sculpey. ? ? ? Any thickness should bake well and through . . I put mine in a cold oven-heat to temp (235*) and bake 15 minutes per 1/4 inch. Slow and easy, and a great Armature will support any thickness. Let COOL Completely in oven. Fill any Stress cracks with Magic Sculpt, smoothed with Water before Hardening, and Wah-lah. . . This is a Great Piece. Would Love to see it Painted . TMF /

Thanks for the tip, I shall remember that for future. At this point though, he's already got several large cracks, and I don't feel like he is good enough to spend a lot of time and energy repairing, or painting. One day I will create another werewolf!

aluminum foil i have heard abt that it works apparently but ive never tried it haha how expensive is it and can you paint it with acrylics? But hey its a great werewolf haha keep it up!

Not sure how much aluminum foil costs, you can buy it at a grocery store though, I'm sure. I'm sure you can paint it, not sure if it would look any good. For sculpting, you don't usually see it because it's for bulking up the insides, not the outside. Thanks!

Really great detail (again). Love his expression and his feet. Too bad you can't bake him!

Thanks again! That's okay. He's my first, so I'll keep him until he falls apart haha. Especially since I'm not keeping the basilisk.

how about a sculpture of the mutation time from human to werewolf... it can be a nice idea ... don't you?

For sure! But I have so many ideas for new sculpts, that I wouldn't get to that for a long long time. Perhaps in the future!

I think that if you put a tin foil tent over him, and baked him for longer on a lower temperature, he should be okay. That's what I do for my sculpey things. If you're worried about him softening too much to support his weight, lay him on his back and gently form a 'nest' of aluminum foil or parchment paper or something so he's less likely to bend. If there are cracks, you can apply sculpey to them and fix it easily. You can rebake that stuff multiple times.
Very good job on the face! I love the claws and tufts of fur!

Hey thanks a bunch for the tips! For now I'm just going to leave him, but if I do bake him in the future, I'll definitely use some of your ideas. Thanks again!

Thank-you kindly! I'm doing another sculpture, starting it this week (not another werewolf though). I'm hoping to improve greatly the second time round.
