Dr. Melbert Stevens graduated from medical school only a few years ago but is already a senior resident at this hospital. While among the younger physicians on staff, he is loaded with ingenuity, youthful energy and a true passion for his work. With Dr. Tan out on a lecture this weekend, Dr. Stevens is nominally in charge of the fracture team today, a responsibility he takes very seriously.

Arriving at the hospital shortly after the dramatic events involving Shellie and Alexa, Dr. Stevens finds himself in a bit of a crisis: a patient with serious fractures necessitating a stay in traction is also actively aggressive and combative towards another patient. Due to a recent pandemic, hospital resources are stretched thin and there are no other places to put her. Diverting Alexa to another hospital is also ruled out due to inadequate equipment and staff training in the nearest hospitals. Even the prospect of moving her by ambulance is a risk. Furthermore, keeping her constantly drugged and sedated would cause complications with the healing process and is likewise rejected.

What can be done? After serious consideration, Dr. Stevens comes to a novel decision.

"Prep the cast room..."

Shellie is fast asleep this Saturday afternoon and doesn't notice the swift transfer of a heavily drugged and unconscious Alexa back to the recovery ward. The traction frame for Alexa is already setup by the time of her return and it was only a matter shifting onto the bed and attaching her to the various slings and pulleys.

Awaking to the sight of Nurse Flores and Dr. Stevens securing the traction bars above, Alexa bolts up only to find very little movement is possible. It takes a moment for the realization to sink in: she is wearing a new set of plaster. A very large, very thick, and very restrictive cast extends from her chest, past her shoulder and all the way up her entire right arm, itself awkwardly set in a sort of "high five" position above her head. The plaster is rock hard yet damp to her touch- a sign of its recent application.

She gasps.

Swearing under her breath, she tries again to sit up, this time with concerted effort. Alexa remains immobile with only the jangling sound of metal pulleys and traction bars above.

This cast is wrapped with not only double the usual amount of plaster, but also structurally reinforced by a sturdy bar from elbow to torso. It is held up to the traction frame via a sling directly opposite her huge leg and hip cast, similarly suspended in traction at the other end. Needless to say, this form of "punitive cast" will easily serve its purpose of keeping it's wearer immobile by its sheer bulk and weight.

With a barely restrained grin, Dr. Stevens explains that her new shoulder spica cast will need to be worn "as long as reasonably needed" and that Alexa is hereby restricted to the traction bed until further notice. If she needs anything, it will be brought to her but under no circumstances will she be permitted to go anywhere within striking distance of her new roommate Shellie.

All her wealth, status, and power, mean very little now as this young aristocrat finds herself totally at the mercy of the medical staff and her stiff apparel. Speaking of apparel, Alexa suddenly realizes she is wearing nothing but plaster- a horrifying realization for someone deeply invested in couture fashion as her. It is unlikely any of her beautiful lace garments, silk blouses, and wonderfully splendid designer skirts could ever be stretched over this plaster in any fashionable way. Alexa clenches her teeth, seething with frustration. She's never felt this way before and it is a truly horrifying moment for someone so accustomed to always getting her way.

Nurse Flores (clearly in no mood to put up with any more of Alexa's antics) adds that she'll be keeping a constant eye on her.

Shellie is awakened by the commotion and gives a trepid glance towards her roommate. Nurse Flores comes over, assuring Shellie that Alexa won't be bothering her again.

Shellie isn't so sure about that...

This is my first Shoulder Spica Cast model, ready for use on Alexa for purely punitive reasons. Getting the support bar to work required a good amount of trial and error but it seems to work ok now. Alexa isn't going to be throwing punches again anytime soon.

So much for things going back to normal. My area is under lockdown... again.
