Description
This was one of the designs for the 27th Create-a-Pokemon process, a Fire/Dragon offensive support Pokemon with the ability Regenerator. For the other design I had, see this deviation !
Fire/Dragon is a typing that would seem very obvious to create a Pokemon out of, but it's very hard to create something I found clever and original. When thinking about ideas for a design, instead of thinking about it from the angle of "a dragon with fiery aspects", I thought about it from the angle of "a fiery aspect that happens to be a dragon". So I ended up settling on the idea of using fire to cook, and so this turned into a chef/baker/oven dragon.
The first iteration has a lot of the traits that would carry over into the final version of the design, such as the "hat" made of smoke, pose, and apron. The nose here was inspired by that of the hognose snake.
When we started talking about Regenerator as a primary ability, I started thinking about how to incorporate that into this design. I ended up settling on a gecko as the reptile of choice, as geckos can regenerate their tails. This was also much more inspired than a generic lizard!
At the time, my design has volcano themes in it, but I didn't want to create a bipedal volcano lizard, since CAP already had one in the form of Smokomodo. A key inspiration came from Reigaheres , where I ended up swapping out the volcano theme with a brick pizza oven. This led to the following version.
At this point, stats discussion suggested that CAP 27 would be fast, so I made the legs look more more agile. Additional changes include:
- Replacing the smoke tail with a regular tail, so the design wouldn't have three different shapes of smoke.
- Angling the apron so it looks heavier towards the front. (Thanks to MrDollSteak on CAP for the suggestion!)
- Making the arms look less bulbous and more like claws, to support Dragon Claw as an attack. (Thanks to Nemmy on CAP for the suggestion!)
At this point, I put this design up against my other CAP 27 design in an unofficial poll, to determine which one to submit. This was the design that lost, so I stopped progress on the design.

So, what did I end up with? Here's my design breakdown:
- Head:
- Smoke plume on top of head resembles chef's hat
- Eyebrow ridges resembles gecko eyes popping above their head
- Eyebrow ridges resemble old man's eyebrows
- Smoke coming out of nostrils resembles dragon whiskers
- Smoke coming out of nostrils resembles a "visible aroma"
- Smoke coming out of nostrils resembles an old man's mustache
- Arms:
- Arms look like oven mitts
- Hand is pinched in that one Italian hand gesture ("che vuoi", I think?)
- Body:
- Shape of torso resembles apron
- Pattern on belly resembles brick oven
- Torso is fat to evoke the "fat chef" trope
- "Bricks" around top and bottom of "apron" clearly delimit "clothes"
- Legs:
- Shaped like gecko feet
- Black shape resembles shoes
- Red shape between toes emphasizes gecko feet bulginess
- Tail:
- Acts as a counterbalance to the weight of the brick oven torso
- Was meant to be patterned after the leopard gecko, but ended up looking best with a ridge that goes down the back, like that of a crocodile
- Pose/expression:
- Face expression looks proud and confident
- Body posture looks proud and confident

After I decided on the other design to submit, I asked the CAP Discord server for help coming up with a name for this design! I ultimately settled on Wahrer's fun name of "Pizzeryu", but I'd also like to acknowledge some of the other suggestions I liked!
- Dragourmet (suggested by StephXPM)
- Gourmecko (suggested by Reiga)
