Proving once and for all that James is not short, Louis is just a freak of nature.
Trying to find a quicker way of throwing together a refsheet, since Louis is in desperate need of an update. Maybe now I'll stop hating them so much and get around to the rest of my characters.
The height chart should help a lot in developing the rest of the characters. Louis is easiest the tallest of my brainchildren, but I may alter his height further down the line as I figure out the rest of the cast. 213 cms might be just a tad too ridiculous, but then where's the fun with exaggerated characters if they have no variety?
Louis's motif has moved away from being loud and brash for the sake of ... well, being loud and brash, to reflecting more of who he is instead. He is constantly seeking freedom from discrimination and a sense of place in the world. Most of his outfits and colour schemes take inspiration from birds, commonly symbolizing freedom, and embody his attempt to take flight. The idea of "leaving the roost" is also relevant, as this is how the whole pirate debacle got started in the first place.
And then of course there's the fact many male birds are more brightly coloured than their female counterparts, but that literal "peacocking" is just an added bonus.

Hello! So sorry for the belated reply.
While the core of the character and story remains recognizable I have been doing a lot of reworking over the years, and most of the characters have been altered or changed in some way, hopefully for the better. In fact at the time of writing this comment Louis has changed yet again!

It's definitely an artistic choice. Louis is not supposed to be 'pretty' in a conservative sense. I exaggerate his nose and chin on purpose.

I think you maaaaay have a slight discrepancy between "5 inch heels" and going from 6'5" to 7'0"... buuut if anybody could rock 7-inch heels, it'd be him.

It's been so awesome to see this character develop over the years. I really like how his styles have changed slightly to reflect a little more on his personality/self; the symbolism is an excellent touch. Can't wait to see what happens with him next!

Speaking of height - one of Russian tsars, Peter the Great was about as high as this guy (about 2m tall) and lived in the 17/18th century.
So I wouldn't say freak of nature. Unless you mean his chin.

I am aware of Peter the Great. Blackbeard as well was sworn to be over six feet tall, but again at the time they lived they would have been anomalies. Most people averaged 5'4" so they would have been imposing figures.

See I've been trying to add an inch ruler next to the cms but ... I keep getting different results! When I punch in the cms to a Metric/Imperial converter I get these numbers here, which is where 7'0" came from. I did think it was a bit tall so I've been trying to figure out where I went wrong and how to fix it, I'm perfectly okay with knocking him down a few inches!

I know it's been a while, but I thought I'd just add the numbers in here:
1 inch is exactly 25.4mm (it was redefined at some point, so this isn't an approximation).
198cm is ~77.95″, so very close to 6′ 6″ (or 78″).
15cm is ~5.91″, close to 6″.
213cm is ~83.86″, which is almost 7′ (or 84″).
So the upper height is pretty close, seems like you just rounded down for the lower height and the height of the heels, when rounding up would've been closer.

I really, really want to cosplay as Louis. I really do. I will never, ever be satisfied with any wig I find, and I'm not anywhere near tall (or pretty) enough. Damn. But I still really, REALLY want to.

Oh, I know about painful heels. The painful heels aren't half as hellish as a wig that won't stay where you put it. I've worn both at the same time, and it was the wig I hated more by the end of the day.
... I am also way too curvy to be Louis, which his fabulous wardrobe would only further emphasise, making me a Louise, instead of a Louis.
...But I desperately WANT to cosplay Louis.

Something ridiculous like that, yeah. I didn't really stick by the heads thing after the sketch stage and might wind up tweaking the proportions as I get around to more of the characters.

usually the "head height" is an after thought after I draw the character in the sketch stage too. It isn't around to when I start fleshing them out I'm like "you're rather short aren't you?" XD

I remember when I started following you when I started going to high school, you were in college then, and you are my hero. I really wanted to be as cool as you were then and now that I'm in college to become a concept artist at Savannah College of Art and Design, I think it's pretty amazing to see how far we've developed since then. Also, Ubisoft now, huh? That's fantastic! I'm so happy for you! Louis was the first picture of your's I ever saw, so it's fitting that I see him as the first thing I've seen since you reopened your DA page! It's great to have you back!
