Thanks for this. I was getting rather frustrated trying to self teach myself this process.

This has to be the best traditional and digital mixed tutorial I have ever seen. Very well done! C: I'm actually using this tutorial right now on my own work. ;w; <3

How long did it take you to do the whole process?

Because of the scale of this picture, the colouring alone took me about two days solid, and a day for the sketch and lineart.

Stunning work! Just stunning! The flow and patterns in this picture just move me around in every direction and towards every detail. The body motions are great and believable! The coloring and shading is spot on! Thanks for the tutorial!

thanx to the explanation, But I think it takes a lot of times to paint one picture. I always do easier way than your if I have a crowd picture... I put the picture to one layer, then I select it by the wand ,delete the white parts, the only thing which remains is the sketch, finally I paint the background with the brush.

Thank you! You're the first I've seen who made a tutorial in which it is explained HOW to use the layers and WHAT the layer settings do!
This means I finally have something to start from when wanting to learn to draw digitally : D

do you use some sort of "Special blue pencil"?
Or can you use a light blue colored pencil?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Before that I drew the image, then scanned it and then I had to draw it again on PC...it took so long!!
I with I could do this "Multiply" step, but I du not have such a great program like Photoshop CS4 so I can't do this T__T

That's unfortunate. I find that if you plan on doing something artistic for a living, it helps to dish out the extra dollars to afford the proper programs. =/

I know I already posted something similar to this, but THANK YOU again for this! I recently finished my first CS4 drawing, and your methodology totally saved my bacon. The finished art [link] was so much easier to accomplish than my usual method, ie, tracing over my pencil lines with the brush tool in photoshop. So, again, thanks a bunch.

Good gravy, that is amazing. Well, I already recognize most of the steps since I do that myself, but just seeing your process makes me appreciate your work and this particular piece so much more. Even as an artist, I often forget just how much time, blood, sweat, and tears goes into creating anything. The amount of detail you put into the background and the outfits is wonderful! It just rocks!

Thanks very much! I hear you there. Sometimes I'm looking at someone else's art thinking "How do they do that so fast?!" before realizing it probably took them days of work.

Holy potatoes this is great! I love seeing how other artists work and since I like your style a lot, it's really cool we get to see this :3 ! Might not fully use it 100% as a tutorial, but always nice to know, and most likely will use some of the tips/steps in future works ^^ (if I ever get to do some D: ...). Knew the coloured pencil sketch from dear but didn't know for the clearing up, so thanks a bunch ^^! Always good to learn new ways of doing things :3
(Haha, I fully understand your 'annoyance' (should I say that? Man I can't put words on my thoughts today) when you added the texture layer xD! Already spent over 6h on something that ended up being covered by texture/other effects ... Not unhappy of the final results but still feel like part of my work 'got wasted' x') ...)

And yet a part of you know that if you don't color it properly underneath, it won't look nearly as nice once the textures are in there. *sobs*

So... I'd like to totally thank you for this tutorial. I've been toying with a progression WiP of a few OC's of mine and using as many of the techniques here as I can (more so for the learning experience). So far I'm quite happy!
Thank you!

Thank you for putting up this tutorial. People such as myself that weren't fortunate enough to go to art school get tremendous help from talented people such as yourself. While nothing is ever over night, I learned a tremendous lot from your detailed explanation and I thank you. Coincidentally, the drawing you used for this tutorial is wonderful too.
