Awesome, I didn't see such detailed Egypt work yet. I love how the statues look and the actual god looks very casual ^^
Set is my fave god alongside with Anubis.

Well you can't expect them to sit still all day, can you? They'd get so tired in those stiff positions.

*glances at my statue* I think he likes it. ^.^
Have a statue of Set in my room, standing in a giant terracotta dish filled with red sand... with the remains of frankincense and a glass of amaretto next to him. XP
But anyways... I've gotta stop rambling. I love your artwork! I especially love the two on either side of the doorway, looking at whoever comes through.

Thanks. I only have Anubis and it's very small, but it's a gift from a friend.

Aren't gifts wonderful? XD
I'm taking care of an Anpu statue in the other room- it belongs to a friend of mine, but she doesn't have the room for him. He can't be in with Set, since the two hate each other. >.>

Which of the Egyptian Gods doesn't, but I think Horus would be the one to keep him away from.

Actually... Horus and Set, if you read the mythos, are -quite- companionable. Very graphically, in fact. XD Set is also a god that figures in fertility... there's even prayers asking the gods to make you "as hard as Set"... >.> <.< The funny thing is, people keep giving him brides and he never -does- anything with them. He'd rather roll around with Horus and gets into a jealous rage and cuts off Osir's (Osiris) balls because of his relations with the female nefer.
By the way, did you know the Egyptians believed lettuce was an aphrodisiac? It's Set's favorite offering. ;^.^
........ Sorry, rambling. I should stop.

I heard it differently, that Horus was the son of Isis and Osiris during the one night he was resurrected by Anubis so Horus went after Set with a vengeance and he cut off Set's balls and banished him into the Sahara.
Granted, that's only one of many different versions I've heard. I have a set of thirty scarabs and a book on how to take readings with them written by an Egyptian Priestess of Isis but the mythos varies in there, too. Also in her book if you're born on the fourteenth (day/month/year) Set is your scarab symbol and he's nothing nice. One-night stands, violent rages, etc. etc. are what he represents in these readings.

Haaaa.... yes... the Egyptian mythos -is- rather contradicting in many ways. The whole business is rather complicated and unclear in many ways; Horus going after Set and getting his balls is just a small bit of it. Having major fighting doesn't necessarily preclude having lots of sexual encounters as well.
Tehuti, in some versions, is considered the child of the union between Set and Horus. Which causes a few logistical problems, true, but that's the explanation as to why he holds the title of the "son of the two lords".
One of the stories says that Anpu is a thief who became a nefer as punishment for trying to steal something from Oser. Others say that he's the son of Oser and Nepthys, and it's that union that pissed Set off and caused him to get Oser's balls... which in turn set Horus off later.
The Egyptian gods are basically players in one gigantic, convoluted soap opera... so one night stands and violent rages are rather the norm, and the cutting off of men's balls should be expected multiple times.
Blah. I'm rambling again. If you want references to all these stories, I can give you a few. ;^.^ Far too much to write in a dA comment box.

I'm sure I can find them myself if I browse libraries, museums, and the internet long enough, but I don't expect them to make any more sense at the end of the day. It doesn't help that Upper and Lower Egypt had their own versions of the same mythos so that when they unified things got even more jumbled, and I don't think I need to mention losing the religion in the first place after the Romans invaded, or forgetting the Egyptian language and alphabet shortly after. It's no wonder the mythos is in shambles.
It's also the reason, as much as I love Egyptian mythology, I will likely never do a story about it because it's going to cause too many misinterpretations, some of which will probably rub people the wrong way.

All true enough. ;^.^ Still, it makes about as much sense as most anything else does these days...
As long as you keep drawing Egyptian inspired things on occasion; you do really well with it! If people have a problem... *shrugs* It's their problem.
... Not much to say this time. I guess my rambling phase is over for now, which is probably a good thing. Love being able to have the occasional intelligent conversation here on dA, though!

Intelligent conversations are hard to come by on the internet these days.
It's less fear of other people having issues with my take on the mythology so much as I'd like to retain and show a little respect towards those few "actual" Isis Priests/Priestesses and, of course, the actual Egyptians themselves in their afterlives as per their beliefs. It's why sometimes seeing a really good piece of art where they bastardize Anubis and make him "evil", or of course the ever-so-popular erotic or pornographic pictures with Egyptian Gods really irk me. But I don't usually comment and just move on - there's no point in arguing.

They are indeed!
That makes a lot of sense. It's always nice to have respect for religions and belief systems in general. Very few of the original renditions of religious texts have allusions to "pure" evil... Mostly the deities, "demons", and other denizens of the mythos have a huge capacity for "good" and "bad" actions, and it's really a matter of personal interpretation. It's a shame that more modern concepts have glued each deity into such black and white definitions.
I've certainly learned that bit about no point in arguing... My mouth usually gets me into far more trouble than it's worth. ;^.^ It's nice to find someone willing to simply discuss things!

Well the true egyptian Set has a donkey head with a downward curving snout and upright square-tipped ears, he also has a forked tail.
