Description I started this back in February, to use my time wisely , as my CPU calculated Mandelbulbs till it overheats! I smelled burnt dust a few time!

The foreground water is a 3D render from Bryce 7 Pro. The rest was handpainted by me in Photoshop CS6. I was looking for melting snow, glacier and iceberg look to it, like one might find on a fantasy quest. Hence, the name of the image.

Anyway, I am putting this up for sale as Premium Content, so someone might use it as a background of mat painting for an interesting over painting or background in a 3D image or computer animation.

I hope you like my efforts. I learned even more on handling brushes while painting Photoshop in this one too!

WOW, awesome work! And almost entirely computer generated (except for your physical input in PS)... I gave up long ago trying for anything this realistic in CGI, I'm better off just making photographs, lol... If I can ever get caught up on paying bills I plan to get myself an iPad and some kind of stylus so that I can be freed up to paint onscreen

I can certainly relate to the issues in rendering in M3D, but my comp doesn't overheat anymore since I've been using cooler fans under both my laptops...just a tip! But the renders still take forever, so while they creep along I'm off doing other projects....or away at work....or sleeping!

Thank you for the in-depth comment.

I think of these many programs and computers, tablets and phones as tools to create art ... they are pencils, and pens, and brushes, etc. Art is not necessarily "photorealistic".

Have you thought about one of the digital pens like Wacom has? There are a few other manufacturers who make them, but the reviews say they stutter. Some a pressure sensitive. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Android), with the built-in stylus. The tablets and phones do not register my touch very well, but the stylus is great, accurate, and had so many features, depending on the app.

Rendering has always been a time consuming issue, unless you can access some huge array, or supercomputer. LOL

Again, thanx. Have fun with your art. Experiment!
You will develop your own methods and styles over time.

Tablets and phones are expensive, those I've been looking at run from anywhere between $300 to $800. I don't even earn $800 a month in wages, and those pesky RL bills keep popping up to nab what money I have. Probably best for me to stick to physical paper and paint or pens (and there seem to be some very cool pens out there today) and then take a digital photograph of the work. I've done that with decent results...

I sometimes use my phone to take pictures of stuff, and make art from that. There are plenty of art apps for the phones too, as well as photograph enhancement apps.

I should be in good shape then I have never photographed serious art (not for a very long time anyway) but I have two reasonably good digital cameras and a truckload of photo enhancement software... So again, another new adventure...
Check out my other DA folders to see what I do with photos and have done for ages... There are more coming up very soon too!

Been a wee while since I've actually painted or drawn things on physical paper with "old fashioned" media, but I did a lot of that when I was younger, even sold some of it. Today, however, the market in my area isn't very good and my leisure time for such projects is at a minimum as well. That's why the ability to make digital art today is a blessing! A time saver and a stress buster...no money in it but then there never really was

Many people still do not understand digital art, and ordering it online.

yeah, they miss so much!! Prints can be ordered that surely must be astounding. I've never seen one printed out huge and framed but what a sight that must be
And it is high time people began to get a clue about what "us'ns" do around DA and elsewhere. Most of my closest RL friends are older than me and although they have seen my work online, they are like "Oh how pretty, so you made that!?"...rather than joyfully picking it apart layer by layer, as we artists do in our intensive studies of each other's work

I went back and searched for this cartoon, it made me laugh coz I can totally relate! My friends are like the girl on the left, while we Artists are like the boy on the right

When I first joined dA, I bought a few of my works on post cards. They were cheap, and I could see the quality of their work. I have seen some mugs with my work on it. I think the mugs bleed and the colors look watery with some bleeding. I think it is the glaze and firing, or whatever process they use.

I think dA is a "mutual admiration society" with some small opportunities, mostly.

Yuck!!! That would be so disappointing to buy works on something like mugs and find that the quality had suffered that much.
A few of the great artists around here do sometimes sell their work at huge sizes no doubt for framing.
A while back I had some hopes of selling my work here, and had many of the images for sale which was IMO a waste of time.
Even the best artists, if they do actually make a sale, they wind up with only a small profit

But I like being able to associate with artists from all over the world. I have made many nice friends where we correspond outside dA. It is the equivalent of an artist colony, but digitally and electronically. I get to compare my work to the quality and similarity of other artists, and I know it has improved by art a great deal more. and I have a nice backup of most of my finished art, including some photos of traditional works from my ancient days. And I appreciate the few dollars I have made from what would otherwise sit in a closet (or a dank disk drive!), I am sure.

Thank you for the conversation. I appreciate them all. I am retired now. Do you still work? What line of work do you do?

It is the creativity that is important, and art is a language of its own kind! We can express visually what words simply cannot say. (Math maybe, but no words! )

Have a fun weekend too, Krystal!

I totally agree with you! And I am also thankful that we have this great online "world" and so many other artists who do their work in so many different styles and yet we cross paths with them and even become friends with them. I know that my digital art (or photos of traditional work which might be showing up here one of these days) gets loads more exposure online than it ever did offline. Once in a rare while I do still sell a piece of traditional work but it is a surprise when I do How nice it would be if I could sell digital art...

Yes I do still have a job, I am a part time lobby hostess at a local McDonald's... It can be really hard work physically for a spindly little thing like me. But I probably won't ever retire b/c I don't earn much money and won't be able to live on my retirement benefits and savings. I always say I will "die with my boots on" and the last day at my workplace they will have to carry me out, feet first...

I have seen that happen to many people here in Florida. It is time for the government(s) to step up and see that everyone has the decent living that is necessary in this society. If not, I foresee a worldwide uprising. We have the technology to deliver food, clothing and shelter to everyone on a regular basis, and when environmental or man-made disasters happen. I expect we are seeing a society in upheaval, going through some worldwide consciousness and evolution. The Cylons are coming! We are the Borg! Resistance is futile

Thank you so much. I try to get a nice expressionist point of view, but I do try to stay somewhat real, but not quite surreal. Fantasy painting seems to require that.
Have a fun summer!
