are you using a charcoal pencil to keep your lines prevalent in your watercolors or is it just at softer lead pencil?

These seem so inspired by a book I red once called "Snow" there were some characters that had animals characteristics. Like one guy had raven feathers up his arms and in his hair, and a girl had cat eyes and ears...
Anyways, there are amazing!!!
