I think he faced his fears. Yeah, he left the Clans to get away from Tigerstar, but that was more for his own safety than anything. After all, there was the very real possibility of Tigerstar killing him if he stayed. And if Tigerstar had killed him, then the only witness to Redtail's murder would have been gone, leaving Redtail's murder to go unsolved. But instead of staying silent, Ravenpaw told Firestar of Redtail's murder, and continued to back his friends, even if it wasn't always on the front lines. It's because of him, along with Firestar and Graystripe, that Tigerstar's true nature is eventually revealed. Not only that, but he also stands by his friends and old Clanmates during the battle with BloodClan, when he and Barley could have easily just stayed out of it and remained in the relative safety of the barn. Then when BloodClan tries to take over his and Barley's barn, instead of fleeing and finding another home, he stays and fights for it, even though he's outnumbered. 

I think he faced his fears more than any of his old Clanmates, even Firestar. At least Firestar had StarClan to back him; he didn't.
